Woman chews through backseat of North Carolina police car following arrest for assault

A woman chewed the back seat cushion of a North Carolina police cruiser after she was arrested on assault charges, North Carolina police said.

The bizarre biting incident happened after the woman, 32, was arrested on an alleged assault on Jan. 2, the Boone Police Department reportedly said.

Boone Police Sgt. Dennis O’Neal told the Charlotte Observer about $650 in damage was assessed to the vehicle following the toothy attack.

“A lot of padding,” he said.

The department downplayed the situation on social media, joking that they might have to buy extra coverage for the chairs.

“That moment when you’re so angry you’ve been arrested that you decide to chew the chair,” the department wrote on Facebook. “We might have to invest in Kevlar seat covers.”

Some commenters on the Facebook post also made some jokes, with one user asking “Did you catch jaws,” referring to the famous movie about killer sharks.

“What kind of teeth does this person have,” quipped another user. “Good lord.”

“They wouldn’t put their mouths on anything back there if they knew what everyone else was doing back there,” wrote another user.

Police in Boone, located about two hours from Greensboro and Charlotte, have not determined whether the woman will face additional charges related to the incident.

The damage was discovered after the suspect had been processed to prison, Sgt. O’Neal told the Charlotte Observer.

“It’s an unfortunate situation, I’m sure he regrets putting himself in that position of eating the back of a police car now that everything is calm,” O’Neal said.
