A woman shot five people outside country singer Dierks Bentley’s crowded Denver bar on Saturday after she was denied entry from the hot spot.
Denver police are searching for a suspect who remains at large five days after a mass shooting outside Whiskey Row, located in a busy downtown nightlife corridor.
The woman may have targeted bar security who stopped her from entering the Market Street bar because they suspected she was using someone else’s ID, investigators told KDVR.
He left the line of people waiting to get in and then turned around, pulled out a gun and began spraying bullets into the country music club around 11:15 p.m., Denver Public Safety told the local Fox affiliate station.
The shooter instead attacked five people who were outside the bar at the time and is not believed to be the target, police said. All five are expected to survive their injuries.
A man who works security at a bar across the street told a local station that he heard six shots ring out. He rushed everyone on the sidewalk in front of his bar inside and locked the door.

“I was standing here and I heard six shots,” Andrew Reader told KDVR. “My initial reaction, my goal, was to save all these people.”
He said staff took patrons to the back of the bar and told everyone to exit the back door once police deemed it safe.
A woman who was waiting in line to enter Whiskey Row behind the suspect told Denver7 people started screaming and running when the shooting happened.
“It happened so fast,” Madison Sharnowski told the local ABC news affiliate station, adding that she initially froze when she heard seven or eight gunshots. “At that point, it’s like a flight or fight response.”

He said he was thankful he and his friends were unhurt as a woman in front of his party and behind them were each shot.
“I am very grateful to be here. And to be OK, and all my friends are OK too. But it was a traumatic experience to go through, especially for the five victims who were hit,” he said.
Sharnowski said most of the victims appeared to have been shot in the leg.

He stayed with one of the victims, a young woman who was shot through the ankle until an ambulance arrived and helped her contact her mother.
“You really don’t know how you’re going to react until it happens. And hopefully, it’s not something you have to respond to,” Sharnowski said.
Denver police released a photo of the suspected shooter on Monday and is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
