A New Zealand woman who killed her three daughters before attempting suicide has revealed she slept with teddy bears made from their clothes.
South African doctor Lauren Dickason, 42, was found guilty in August of killing her two-year-old twins Maya and Karla and their six-year-old sister Lianè at their home in Timaru, New Zealand on September 16, 2021.
She admitted killing the girls but pleaded not guilty to murder, arguing she was suffering from post-natal depression at the time and did not know what she was doing was wrong.
After a four-week trial, a jury of eight women and four men rejected Dickason’s legal defense under New Zealand’s insanity and infanticide laws. They were not unanimous, voting 11-1 for conviction, a split allowed under New Zealand law.

Dickason is currently in custody at Hillmorton Hospital in Christchurch, awaiting sentencing. He communicated with a group of about 1500 people who had expressed their support for him during the trial and since his conviction.
The Facebook group, ‘Support for Lauren Dickason’, was started in July 2022 and has approximately 1500 members, mostly women, from New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Namibia, the United Arab Emirates, Canada, the Netherlands , Vietnam and Mauritius.
In a recent handwritten letter posted in the group, according to NZ website The Press, Dickason revealed he slept with a teddy bear sewn from the dead girl’s clothes.
She admits she was suffering from postpartum depression at the time and didn’t know what she was doing was wrong.
Her letter was sent in response to a care package she received from the group on the two-year anniversary of her children’s deaths. The package includes peace lily plants and edible items from a South African store in Christchurch.
“Thank you to everyone for your love and support during this difficult time,” Dickason wrote.
In the post, he included a drawing of a bouquet of sunflowers, writing: “to commemorate the girls who died on September 16”.
Sunflowers have become a symbol for the group, with members sharing photos of themselves planting flowers in support of Dickason.
Dickason also shared a photo of three teddy bears he said were made out of children’s clothing, with their names embroidered on the legs.

“I sleep with them at night, to hug them close and remember all the beautiful hugs my girls have given me”, he wrote.
The letter was signed with a love heart and “Lauren xxx”.
Dickason will be sentenced on December 19.
The support group plans to organize a peaceful march in Christchurch in November ahead of Dickason’s sentencing. More than 1300 supporters have signed a petition calling for her to be given a lighter sentence due to post-natal depression.
It is unclear whether Dickason was ever diagnosed with the disease.
