Stomachs rumbled among Chinese beer fans after a worker was caught urinating into a tank of ingredients at the country’s Tsingtao brewery in a disgusting video.
The clip, which went viral last Thursday on Chinese microblogging site Weibo, shows a man in a uniform and hard hat climbing into a container believed to hold raw materials for beer and urinating in it.
Tsingtao Brewery, China’s second-largest beer producer, issued a statement saying it was looking into the gut-wrenching video, which was filmed at its factory in the city of Pingdu.
“Our company is concerned about the related video that emerged from Tsingtao Brewery No. 3 on October 19,” the beer producer said, the South China Morning Post reported. “We reported the incident to the police as soon as possible, and public safety agencies are involved in the investigation.”
A video shared on Chinese microblogging site Weibo appears to show a worker urinating in a container of ingredients at a factory operated by Tsingtao Brewery. The footage that has been viewed tens of millions of times was taken at factory No. 3 in Pingdu city.
A statement from Tsingtao reassured its customers that the batch of ingredients from its facility in Pingdu had been sealed.
“Our company continues to increase management efforts to ensure product quality, and welcomes user supervision,” the manufacturer said.
The Pingdu Market Authority said on Friday that it quickly assembled a team and conducted an investigation at the site featured in the viral video.
Both the worker seen in the video and the person who filmed it have reportedly been detained by police. The brewer said the batch of ingredients at the Pingdu factory had been sealed.
“Once confirmed, we will deal with this matter seriously in accordance with the law and regulations,” the agency warned.
Both the man seen urinating in the video and the person who filmed it have been detained by police, the state-owned National Business Daily reported.
The outlet also said, citing internal sources familiar with the matter, that the two were not direct employees of Tsingtao but outsourcers.

The urinating video has left angry social media users frothing at the mouth – with some internet wits using the opportunity to poke fun at the quality of the local drink.
“I always say the beer here is like horse piss,” one reviewer quipped. “It turns out I was wrong.”
