A World War II vet who ate breakfast at his local McDonald’s almost every day for 36 years turned 100 years old last Friday – and celebrated the milestone birthday by driving himself to the fast food place for an oversized party.
West Virginia resident Zan White and a group of friends dubbed the ROMEO club have been trading stories and anecdotes for more than three decades in the Elkins location, WDTV reported.
The Golden Arches held a birthday celebration for the centenarian on Friday that included decorations and birthday wishes from the state’s governor.
“I have seen Zan every morning for most of my 24 years of work; it’s a joy to see it every morning, it’s one of the highlights of my day,” the restaurant’s area supervisor Mark Godwin told the station.
White, named after the former sheriff, has lived in Elkins all his life except when he served in World War II. At one point, he started a group called the “Retired Old Men” club, or ROMEO for short, that gathered at Mickey D’s, White explained.

The elderly man amazingly still has his driving license after he recently renewed it. Godwin credits McDonald’s for the longevity of its customers.
“It’s definitely coming to McDonald’s every morning and enjoying McDonald’s coffee,” Godwin said with a voice.
West Virginia Governor Jim Justice sent White a certificate to commemorate his achievement.

“Looking back fondly over the years, I’m sure you’re happy to see the many lives you’ve touched in a positive way,” Justice wrote to her.
The local sheriff’s office jokingly sent him a 100-year reckless driving ticket and a plaque, while the town’s mayor declared it Zan White Day.
“I asked him what the secret was and he just smiled at me so I hope that means I have to smile a lot, so congratulations to Mr. White he is an amazing citizen that we have and we are honored to have him,” the mayor. Jerry Marco told WDTV.

Meanwhile White vowed to maintain a morning routine.
“I’ve been coming here for 36 years,” White reportedly said with a laugh. “I can’t stop now.”
