Wynonna Judd Reacts To CMA Awards Concern: ‘I Could Cry Right Now’

Singer Wynonna Judd told fans she was fine after her performance at the CMA Awards went viral on Wednesday night, with many expressing concern for her health.

The country music legend, formerly known for his role in the country music duo known as The Judds with his late mother Naomi Judd, joined performer Jelly Roll on stage for a performance to open the awards show. However, as the two sang the rapper’s hit single, “Need A Favor,” Wynonna could be seen holding Jelly Roll’s arm.

Many fans took to Instagram and X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, to express their concerns about her performance and health, as many of her followers commented that she looked less comfortable than usual on stage.

It seems Wynonna Judd is aware of the comments being made about her online. After the show, she took to Instagram to address concerns that she was in poor health. The video was made on a plane from Nashville to Texas, as he assured fans that he would still be performing in the Lone Star state.

Early Thursday morning, the “No One Else on Earth” singer said, “Okay, so they said don’t read the comments [but] I’ve read the comments and I’m just going to come clean with you all. I was very nervous. I went out there and I saw Jelly Roll [and] I want it to be so good for him,” she confessed.

She described her nervousness before the show started, saying, “I could cry right now, but I’m not going to cry, because I’m his fan and he asked me to sing and I said emphatically.”

Fortunately for the fans, she told them that she grabbed the guy because she was so nervous, not because she was in an unhealthy state. “I got out there and I was so nervous that I was holding on for dear life,” he said. “And that’s the bottom line.”

He ends the video by telling his fans that he will still be performing his Texas show on Thursday night, which is part of his Back to Wy tour. The tour focused on her first two solo albums: Wynonna and Tell Me Why.

“I’m going to be on stage tomorrow night with the people I love the most, and with you, the fans I love the most,” he concluded, adding, “And everything is fine.”

Many fans were surprised to see Wynonna nervous about her performance, as she told People magazine in August that performing live was “one of the [her] absolute favorite thing to do.”

“Coming off The Judds tribute tour, for me, it’s time to get back into intimacy again. It’s been years celebrating not only being in country music for 40 years but me as a solo artist — I have a lot to celebrate,” he said at the time.

Wynonna Judd and Naomi Judd starred as The Judd for years before Naomi took her own life a year and a half ago. However, Wynonna has maintained her side project for decades. His first solo album was released in 1992. It was such a success that he followed it up with another in 1993.

Although he’s proud of his solo career, he compares it to “feeling all the feelings one feels when you move away from home and go to college.”

“You go out on your own and suddenly you don’t have the comforts of home. I went through it professionally as well as personally,” he said, admitting that he had put a lot of pressure on himself to “prove” that he could succeed as an artist without his mother’s support.

“Now I don’t have that kind of pressure. I don’t have that in myself,” Wynonna added. “I just want to have fun and enjoy it with the fans because they are my family. Especially when Mom is gone, I depend on my fans more than ever.”
