Yoga teacher Kaitlin Armstrong allegedly stood over her love rival and shot her in the heart as the professional cyclist screamed in terror, prosecutors said in opening statements.
Armstrong, 35 – who fled to Costa Rica after the alleged love triangle murder – looked somber in court as he wore a blue and dark blazer for his opening statement.
Travis County District Attorney Rickey Jones recalled the moment Anna Moriah Wilson, who went by Mo, took her last breath screaming after Armstrong allegedly shot her multiple times while standing over the woman.
“The last thing Mo did on earth was scream in terror,” Jones told jurors. “And you will hear the screams.”
The audio of the alleged murder was played in court, according to NewsNation reporter Alex Caprariello. It was unclear whether Wilson’s screams could be heard.

Despite the heartbreaking opening statement, Armstrong’s attorney reiterated that no video or witness evidence could place the defendant at the scene of the crime.
The redhead is accused of murdering Wilson after learning her boyfriend Colin Strickland was allegedly having an affair with another cyclist behind her back.
He has denied the allegations.

Prosecutors also said they will show how Armstrong tracked Strickland’s communications with Wilson and his whereabouts through the app, according to Court TV.
Armstrong – who fled the country shortly after the murder – has been accused of driving by the victim’s home on the night of the murder and a bullet casing found at the scene matched the gun found at the alleged killer’s home.

His lawyer argued that he was “excited” to travel and would not have known about the arrest warrant when he left for the Central American country, according to Court TV.
Cameras are only allowed in the courtroom for opening statements. The rest of the hearing will not be broadcast until closing arguments.
