The Gary, Indiana native rose to fame in 1999 with his hit song “You”. Fun fact, the song was actually on his album in 1996 but it wasn’t until ’99 when he and his record label decided to take a chance and release it as a single.
“Anda” debuted at no.14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and made it to No. 10. It also made it No.2 on the Billboard R&B chart.

Powell’s family has gathered to issue a statement on his behalf. R&B singer friends Trina and Tamara Powell spoke about their brother’s passing. “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother and uncle Jesse Powell.”
He went on to share a little about this departure. “He passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles. The family requests privacy at this time as we mourn his great loss and celebrate his lasting legacy.
Grammy winner Tamra Powell continues. “Jesse loves music and he loves his fans who have supported him throughout his career. We want you all to know that you mean the world to him.”

Jesse Powell’s Cause of Death Has Not Been Announced

Tamara Powell’s statement is very touching and sentimental. He did not share the cause of his brother’s death however, he continued to celebrate his brother’s life by sharing other posts honoring him.
This time, he shared a video of the singer performing his hit song. He captioned the video, “That voice,” before delivering another touching tribute to his brother.
“Besides being one of the best male R&B vocalists out there, you’re the best brother. I love you so much. ? I am grateful that we are so close; chaos all the time. ??? We absolutely adore you “Jet” & our family won’t be the same without you.”

“She has one of the most beautiful voices ever. ??I just watched his songs on YouTube this summer. she will be missed ??,” shared a follower of Tamara.
“I’m sitting here stuck and can’t believe it! I have loved Jesse’s talent and voice since day ONE! I have been praying that he will do another album…one more tour. We need his voice. Sending prayers, love and hugs to all of the Powell family,” wrote another.

Several celebrity friends have sent their condolences to the Powell family. The Power of the Gospel Cheryl Pepsii wrote, “Oh my God! I am so sorry to hear this! My Condolences ?????”
R&B powerhouse Deborah cox sends love and fond memories. “Deep condolences? to you and your family. What a gentleman and a sweet soul. I remember we had a promo gig in St. Louis and he is saaaaaang dowwwwwn!!! wow!! What a voice!!”
Powell never had children of his own, he is survived by his siblings and nieces.
