Now, Badgley, the famous lead of the streaming platform’s hit series, “You,” has added his voice to Dahmer’s discourse, calling them out for the role they played in the killer’s love.

For as long as one can remember, Badgley has been vocally discouraging “You” viewers and fans from liking his character, Joe Goldberg. However, that did not stop them, once again stealing their hearts with his performance in the first part of the fourth season of the psychological thriller, which fell last Thursday.
The actor discussed his fascination with serial killers again during an appearance on Entertainment Tonight when the interviewer asked, “What is your message to people who find themselves drawn to serial killers?”

Badgley began his answer by asking the person to “look inside” before continuing and saying, “Now, to be fair, with our show, you’re supposed to fall in love with it. [Joe]. That’s on us. Ted Bundy, it’s up to you. Jeffrey Dahmer, it’s on y— It’s on Netflix. That is squarely on the shoulders of Netflix.”
Answering why some people are drawn to killers, the Baltimore-born star said, “I don’t have an answer at this point. I did, but they were long. Yeah, it’s weird, man.” The honesty and accountability of the “Gossip Girl” alumni earned the admiration of fans, with one writing in the comment section:
“Penn flipped his boss at Netflix AS HE SHOULD have for putting dahmer out there. Like Joe MADE. Bundy and Dahmer did not.”

Badgley’s latest dedication to separating the act from the art comes months after Netflix defended itself against criticism of “Dahmer.” According to The Blast, the show’s co-creator Ian Brenner shared his thoughts on the complexity of the killer during “The Watcher” premiere, where he stated:
“I think we show a human being. He’s very human, and he’s very terrible, and that’s what we want to unpack. We try to show as objective a portrait as possible. We do our homework.”

In case you missed it, the notorious serial killer brutally murdered seventeen men and boys between 1978 and 1991. Most of the murders involved necrophilia — intercourse with corpses, cannibalism and keeping body parts. Dahmer’s killing spree ended in 1994, at the age of 34, after he was beaten to death while serving sixteen life sentences.
Netflix’s depiction of his life — from childhood to death — is huge, becoming the second most popular show ever.

Badgley proved her dedication to making her marriage work when she revealed that she had asked for less sex scenes in “You.” The Blast reports that the actor told listeners that he made the decision while filming the latest season of the show.
As for his reasons, the 36-year-old explained that the request was based on the need to remain committed to his wife, singer Domino Kirke, whom he married in 2017. Although he claimed to have never shared it publicly before, Badgley admitted that he held that view even before joining the plan.
“One of the main things is, do I want to put myself back on a career path where I’m always playing romantic characters? Loyalty in every relationship, including my marriage, is important to me. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t want to do that,” the “Easy A” star said of the impact her Hollywood career has had on her union.
The six-time Teen Choice Award nominee began dating Kirke in 2014, eventually marrying her in a New York court in February 2017. He later became stepfather to his wife’s child from a previous relationship before the couple welcomed their baby boy in August 2020.
