The body of a young school teacher from California was found in the trunk of a burning car after a fire at her boyfriend’s house Wednesday, according to authorities, the woman’s family and neighbors.
The gruesome discovery was made just after 8:30 a.m. when firefighters were called to put out a fire inside a garage in the Los Angeles suburb of Quartz Hill.
By the time first responders arrived at the address on 38th Street West, the fire had engulfed several cars, one of which was found to contain a woman’s body in the trunk.
Neighbors reported hearing a woman scream and what sounded like an explosion just before the fire broke out, station KCAL reported.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has launched an arson and homicide investigation into the woman’s death but has not released any other information, including the victim’s name.
A man who spoke to KCAL revealed that the woman in the trunk was his 27-year-old niece who lives in Quartz Hill and teaches at an elementary school in Palmdale.
The uncle declined to name his loved one who was killed but described her as a kind and quiet woman. He said his family was very sad after learning of his death.
