YouTuber feared dead after jump from cruise ship during fight with girlfriend

A Brazilian YouTuber is feared dead after he jumped off a cruise ship over the weekend during a fight with his girlfriend.

Carlos Alberto Mota Candreva, 32, was last seen early Saturday morning when he allegedly jumped off the MSC Preziosa during a two-day New Year’s cruise from São Paulo to Rio de Janeiro, Metropoles reported.

Just a few hours before he disappeared, however, Candreva happily shared a video of the cruise ship, which he booked with his 27-year-old love interest, Vitoria Barbara Momenso.

“Still here at Port Santos, we are waiting to depart. Let’s see what happens later, there is a party tonight. My suitcase has not reached the cabin door. We are here, enjoying it,” he said in a clip.

The second video shows the MSC Preziosa at sea as the sun sets in the distance, with a brief glimpse of the luxurious-looking restaurant on deck.

Candreva — who posts poems and reflective videos on social media — captioned the second clip “I love sunsets.”

The seemingly idyllic trip, however, went awry when Candreva and Momenso argued about their relationship status, the latter told Metropoles.

While Candreva wants to make their two-year romance more exclusive, Momenso wants to continue seeing other people, explained the surprised modeling agency professional.

“When I was in the bathroom, Carlos took my cell phone. I didn’t even know he had a password. He saw my conversations with other men and sent screenshots to friends saying he was thinking of killing me. He intended to kill me,” he said.

People close to Candreva confirmed the content of the message, the outlet reported.

“He thought he couldn’t see me with someone else, that he couldn’t handle it,” Momenso told g1 of his reaction.

The conflict escalated later, at a party on board, he continued.

“He was already frowning. He stayed by my side and was a little weird, said that I made him a clown and walked away,” Momenso recalled.

Candreva then turned to him and said something about being fooled before throwing herself into the sea, he added.

MSC Cruzeiros, the operator of the trip, later confirmed that a passenger had been reported missing while the ship was sailing to Angra dos Reis, an island en route to Rio.

“A thorough search was conducted on board and it was confirmed that the guest had deliberately jumped overboard,” the company’s statement said.

“The incident was immediately reported to the competent authorities and the Coast Guard released the ship to continue its journey,” he added.

The Brazilian Navy embarked on a search for Candreva, which has so far proved fruitless.

Momenso himself required medical treatment following Candreva’s jump, and disembarked the cruise the next day after speaking with police, he told g1.

“I can’t eat, I try to eat, but it doesn’t come down. I definitely need to go to therapy. I will be traumatized for the rest of my life,” he said of the impact of Candreva’s actions on his well-being.

In addition to her poetry and YouTube videos, Candreva also occasionally acts as a DJ, according to her social media.

Just before Christmas 2023, he published his second poetry collection, “Delirious Thoughts Living in the Dungeon,” as a Kindle ebook.
