Zach Shallcross’ season of “The Bachelor” premiered just a few days ago on Monday, January 23rd on ABC.
The Bachelor Nation is already tuned into the drama, both on and off the show. For example, Greer Blitzer received the first impression of Zach Shallcross rising on the first night at the Mansion, making him the front runner for the season, but he is now facing backlash for a racist Tweet from 2016.
That’s not the only drama surrounding Shallcross’ season as it is now, the captain himself admits to having to go to AA meetings during his teenage years.

Shallcross attended a Catholic high school while living in California, focusing on his goal of playing Division I football at California Polytechnic State University after he graduated, however, he ended up running into a bit of trouble during his teenage years.
The “Bachelor” leader went on the “Almost Famous” podcast with Ben Higgins and Ashley Iaconetti to promote the upcoming season of the ABC reality show, where they discussed the topic of his past.
“My parents said I was actually an easy child to raise,” he said before explaining where things changed. “Until high school I was at a party and one of the kids decided to take a picture of our beer pyramid and send it to our math teacher. Obviously, a good idea,” he laughed.
“The next day, I was brought into the office of the president and principal to discuss,” he explained before adding, “The punishment ended up being [that] because I had a few beers at a party, I had to go to some AA meetings. I had to meet with a pastor weekly and I had my own supervisor who followed me around the school to make sure I wouldn’t leave campus to go, I guess, get a drink. And I was like, ‘Guys, I’m like, 17, relax.’ … It doesn’t make sense.”

Zach Shallcross recently spoke out ahead of his season premiere, which airs on Monday, saying that his sea will be “the most emotional season” yet.
“It may not have been the most dramatic season, but it was the most emotional season they’ve had,” Shallcross tells PEOPLE. “But that doesn’t mean there won’t be drama this season. There is no shortage of drama.”
When asked how he felt about handling this season, the 26-year-old told PEOPLE “there were some situations where I think everyone could have handled something better,” however, he felt he handled “everything in a way that felt right.”
“I follow what’s right for my heart and my gut,” he said.
“I went to all this to find my best friend, to find my future, and you can’t force that,” he continued to explain. “If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen. Otherwise, no. If you let your heart think about it, the right things will happen. I really believe that.”
Zach Shallcross’ season of “The Bachelor” continues Mondays at 8pm ET on ABC. Episodes are available to stream the following day on Hulu.
