Zach Shallcross Says Fantasy Suite With Rachel Recchia Was ‘Like An Interview’

Zach Shallcross was heartbroken last season on “The Bachelorette” after his fantasy suite with lead Rachel Recchia.

Although at the time, neither Shallcross nor Recchia provided details about what happened during their off-screen time, the “Bachelor” lead has now opened up, admitting that Recchia essentially “interrogated” him behind closed doors.

The current “Bachelor” host recently appeared on “The Ben and Ashley I: Almost Famous Podcast,” where he finally revealed what happened with Rachel Recchia during the season of “The Bachelorette.”

“A lot happened last season, especially in the Fantasy Suite. Basically what happened was a complete lack of communication,” Shallcross explained to Ashley Iaconetti and Ben Higgins while on the show. “So with Rachel and I, you know, our relationship got stronger and stronger through the show and all the dates us – and it will completely fall apart when we don’t see each other or talk.”

Thinking back to what happened behind closed doors, Shallcross recalled, “[We] had that time to fully talk and think about things before the most important day of our lives, perhaps, and he treated me like I was a stranger.”

He continued, “Think of it like this: you’re with someone — boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife — and you love them and they start just interviewing you like it’s your first job interview.”

And that’s what got Shallcross off, is that he didn’t expect this from Recchia after the connection he thought the two shared. “They don’t look at you the same; they don’t look at you with any love and it just, like, treats you like a stranger. And it’s just, like, ‘Bam, bam, bam’ — interview questions and this and that, and there’s no comfort there,” he told the podcast host.

The 26-year-old went on to explain how he didn’t want to talk specifics out of respect for Recchia, but he added how he questions her intentions and if she’s really ready for an engagement given her age, something she admitted last year. Fans were quick to root for Shallcross as they pointed out Recchia was only a year older than him.

“Everything is almost like rapid fire [interrogation] and there’s no good answer and I’m never good enough,” she continued to say during the podcast before adding, “We were just sitting there next to each other, and it was like, ‘This isn’t true. . This is not how we see each other or how we spend time together. Does he care about me the same way I care about him — or at all?!’”
