$1.8M in jewelry, designer clothes stolen in ritzy Beverly Hills hotel heist

Paging the fashion police.

A man was busted for allegedly swiping more than $1.8 million in designer jewelry and other fashion accessories from a hotel in Beverly Hills, federal authorities said Thursday.

Jobson Marangoni De Castro, 37, is accused of tricking a staff member at the five-star Peninsula Beverly Hills hotel into handing over a key to a room belonging to a Brazilian couple in town for a fashion event on May 10, according to the Justice Department.

She allegedly stuffed six suitcases with their glittering jewelry — including a $200,000 Flavia Vetorasso diamond necklace and an $89,400 Chopard L’Heure du Diamant watch — along with $14,000 worth of Chanel dresses and other items, according to the federal complaint.

De Castro, a Brazilian national living in Beverly Hills, then fled to Miami, where he allegedly tried to sell some of the stolen goods to a store owner via Instagram for $50,000, according to the complaint.

The alleged jewel thief was arrested Monday and charged with interstate transportation of stolen property at Los Angeles International Airport.

Before the jewelry heist, De Castro allegedly took an Uber to the hotel and charged a bar meal to the couple’s room, federal prosecutors said.

He initially tried to enter a hotel room but found one of the guests sleeping, so he left and returned later, the feds said.

He was later filmed in a hotel elevator carrying a suitcase belonging to the unnamed victim, who said they did not previously know him, according to the complaint.

Investigators said they tracked De Castro’s movements on the day of the theft using GPS data from his Uber ride and two suitcases that had AirTags inside.

Other items she allegedly swiped included a $5,000 Tumi suitcase, a $1,000 Rimowa handbag, along with $285,000 worth of clothing and shoes, the feds said.

He faces up to 10 years in prison.
