1 dead, at least 12 injured after tour bus rolls over in upstate NY: ‘Horrific incident’

One person was killed and at least 12 others were injured after a Canadian tour bus overturned in upstate New York on Friday, officials said.

The crash happened at about 12:49 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 87 in the popular Adirondack resort town of Lake George in Warren County — about four hours north of New York City, his destination, according to state police and local agencies.

The Skyway Coach Line tour bus was traveling from Montreal with 23 passengers, including the bus driver, according to state police.

One passenger was killed, another was seriously injured and 10 suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the agency said.

The majority of the passengers, who were on their way to catch a flight in the Big Apple, were Canadians, the Times Union reported, citing Warren County spokesman Don Lehman.

One passenger was taken to Albany Medical Center in critical condition, police said. At least 12 others were taken to Glens Falls Hospital with minor injuries, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The Lake George Central School District confirmed to The Post that it dispatched a bus to the crash site that took the injured passengers to the Lake George firehouse.

The southbound lanes of I-87 remain closed between Exits 23 and 22, state police said Friday afternoon.

The Fort William Hotel in Lake George is offering free lodging and meals to tour bus passengers, Lehman told News 10.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said her office had been notified of the crash and Department of Transportation workers were on the scene.

“I join the people of New York in praying for the well-being of all involved in this horrific incident and am deeply grateful for the heroic efforts of our first responders,” he said in a statement.

State police are urging witnesses or drivers with dash cam video who may have recorded the crash to call Troop G at 518-783-3211.
