10-year-old American boy bitten by shark during tank encounter at Bahamas resort

A 10-year-old boy from Maryland was bitten by a shark while joining a party at a resort in the Bahamas, police said.

The boy’s right leg was attacked by the predator while he was taking part in a shark tank “expedition” at a local resort on Paradise Island around 4pm on Monday, the Royal Bahamas Police Force said.

The child was later taken to hospital in stable condition to be treated for his injuries.

The victim has not been named and there is no information about the type of shark that bit him.

Police have not identified the resort where the incident took place, but the sprawling Atlantis Paradise Island offers on-site shark encounters.

The hotel complex, where room rates start around $250 per night, offers an hour-long “Walk With the Sharks” experience for children 10 and older, described as “easy and fun.”

“Using a state-of-the-art clear glass helmet, guests can explore an underwater sea safari while walking the bottom of the Mayan Temple Shark Lagoon to see Caribbean reef sharks and nurse sharks up close,” the website reads.

The Post reached out to the resort on Tuesday for comment.

An investigation into the shark attack is ongoing, police said.
