11 pro-Palestinian protesters arrested in London as tens of thousands demand Gaza ceasefire

At least 11 pro-Palestinian protesters were detained by London’s Metropolitan Police on Saturday, as tens of thousands took to the streets to demand a ceasefire in Gaza.

One man was accused of waving hateful banners near Piccadilly Circus, London’s equivalent of New York’s Times Square, while another held a sign threatening to blow up the Houses of Parliament, according to The Independent.

Protesters started in Trafalgar Square, according to the outlet.

A woman reportedly threw an image of the Star of David into a bin covered in the slogan: “Let’s keep the world clean.”

British Transport Police are also looking into an incident in which London Underground riders chanted “destroy the Zionist settler state,” The Independent reported.

Similarly to the US, protesters in London blamed their government for being “guilty” of the nearly 10,000 deaths in the Gaza Strip.

A speaker at the event said: “Victory over the Palestinian resistance, until Palestine is free from river to sea and Zionism, the oppressive and terrible state of Israel is destroyed and demolished, brick by brick, government by government.

“The Palestinian flag, if we stand with the Palestinian people, if we build a revolutionary, anti-imperialist movement in our community from the grassroots, if this movement stands with the Palestinian people, imagine in our lives, one day, the Palestinian flag. will fly high and proud over the city of Jerusalem,” they said, according to the Daily Mail.

Other protests took place across the UK, including in Manchester and Glasgow, where attendees waved Palestinian flags and called for a ceasefire.

International protests also erupted, including in DC and NYC, where attendees accused Biden and other politicians of genocide.

American rapper Macklemore attended the DC protest, where he called the deaths of more than 9,000 in Gaza “genocide” while protesters called for the destruction of Israel.

In some protests, attendees chanted “free, free Palestine,” “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” and “victory to the Intifada.”
