A student was killed and another injured when gunfire erupted during a high school football game in Louisiana on Friday.
The shooting happened during halftime near the stands of the Port Allen High School football field, according to the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Two people were hit by bullets: a 16-year-old male student and a 28-year-old female student.
A medical helicopter landed on the field and took both victims to hospital, where the teenager was pronounced dead.
The woman was treated for non-life threatening injuries to her arm.
Police have made no arrests and have no leads of violence.
“We don’t know what led up to that event and we don’t know yet if it was a targeted or random shooting,” Sgt. Landon Groger said. “We want to take the time and discuss this from all angles.”

According to the West Baton Rouge School Board, the mysterious shooting occurred despite increased security being in place for the school’s second game of the season.
The game against nearby Brusly High School was suspended with a 13-13 tie.
Port Allen officials announced they would increase security during the school day following the tragedy.
“We have a program in our school that teaches students how to resolve disputes with their peers. We will redouble those efforts and work with the Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s Office and others in the coming months to teach our students that violence destroys many lives,” Superintendent Chandler Smith said in a statement to parents.

“Our prayers are with all those affected by this tragedy. At times like this, our entire community is sad. By loving and supporting each other, we will get through it.”
The tragedy comes just a week after a 16-year-old boy was killed and three others were injured during a shooting at an Oklahoma high school football game.
Police believe weapons were drawn after an argument began between at least two men in the stands.
