Two foreign aid workers were killed in Ukraine on Sunday when Russian fire hit a van carrying Ukrainian NGO staff, as nearly three dozen drones were launched in Kyiv, littering several city districts with debris.
A van carrying four volunteers from the NGO Road to Relief, which helps evacuate wounded people from the front lines, overturned and burst into flames after being hit by bullets near the town of Chasiv Yar.
The organization’s director, Emma Igual, 31, died in the attack, Spanish foreign minister Jose Manuel Albares told The Telegraph.
“A bullet fell on the vehicle the Spaniard was riding in,” Albares said.
“He was working there at an NGO that helps with the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and we have verbal confirmation of his death.”
