25-year-old Israeli hostage killed in Gaza, body used in Hamas propaganda video

A 25-year-old Israeli hostage has died after being held for nearly two months by Hamas terrorists in Gaza, according to reports Saturday.

The body of Sahar Baruch, an electrical engineering student kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 from his kibbutz in southern Israel was featured in a Hamas propaganda video released Friday.

Hamas claims he was killed in an Israel Defense Forces operation to free hostages.

The IDF denied the allegations, and said Baruch was killed by Hamas.

On Saturday, Baruch’s death was confirmed by members of Kibbutz Be’eri, where he lived with his family, and the Hostage and Missing Families Forum.

“It is with sadness and a broken heart that we announce the killing of Sahar Baruch (25), who was kidnapped from her home by Hamas terrorists to Gaza on Black Sabbath and killed there,” the community said in a statement.

The Ben Gurion University student’s family is demanding the return of his remains in any future hostage release deal, according to the Jerusalem Post.

Baruch, whose brother Idan was killed by Hamas during the October 7 massacre, was presumed missing for weeks, until his family received a message that he was being held by Hamas.

“Sahar is at home with her brother Idan at her mother’s house,” an aunt said in an interview with Israeli media Saturday. “They wake up in the morning, like the rest of us, from warnings and explosions. They go in and shut themselves up in the mamad [protected space] but could not close the door,” so they closed it with a cupboard” He continued.

“When the fire started, three grenades were thrown into the mamad – Idan was hit and Sahar treated him for hours.”

The brothers decided to jump from the house when it caught fire, the aunt continued. “Initially, Idan jumped and maybe near him he was shot and killed. Sahar has a few minutes left to bring the inhaler because Idan has asthma. For more than two weeks we did not know what happened to him, and then some information was received that he was not in Israeli territory.”
