Shauna Tiaffay, a 46-year-old Las Vegas-striped cocktail waitress and mother of one, was beaten to death with a hammer in her suburban condominium in 2012. In the early morning hours of Sept. 29, when she was eight-years-old daughter was at her grandmother’s house , she was brutally beaten by a man who was waiting for her arrival. Tiaffay’s estranged and respected firefighter husband George, as well as a homeless man and ex-con named Noel Stevens, whom she claims was recruited to commit the murder, were eventually convicted in the case. A trail of evidence, including blood-stained pants, phone records and tips, led detectives to the culprit.

1) A few weeks before her murder, Shauna Tiaffay’s home was broken into.
Shauna Tiaffay, 46, a cocktail waitress at the iconic Palms Hotel Casino on the Las Vegas strip, was living in a separate apartment in the Summerlin area of Las Vegas in 2012 when her marriage to firefighter husband George Tiaffay became strained. Madison, their eight-year-old daughter, is shared by the two. However, in early September, someone broke into her apartment and took her wedding ring, shocking her from the inside.

Shauna Tiaffay was attacked after returning home from work in the early morning of September 29, 2012. According to reports, a man was already waiting inside her home when she arrived. He then hit her with a hammer and didn’t stop until she was dead. The attack happened weeks after the break-in.
Madison, who spent the night at her grandmother’s house, was picked up by George the next morning and taken to Shauna’s house. He later found her dead and the gruesome murder scene and called 911. According to the Mirror, George Tiaffay allegedly said in the 911 call that morning,
“I believe I should report trespass and murder.”
3) A reliable tip leads the detective to an odd homeless man, who confesses to the crime.
The killer was previously thought to be Shauna’s estranged husband, George Tiaffay. He, however, presented a credible alibi, stating that he worked 24-hour shifts at the fire station before raising their daughter. Following this, the authorities received a vital tip from a man who indicated that his friend Noel Stevens, an ex-con who lived outside the city in a tent, had confessed to killing a woman with a hammer.
When officers arrested her, they searched the area around her tent and found Shauna’s blood-spattered underpants. They also found a barcode sticker that matched a hammer, which was assumed to be the murder weapon. At the police station, Noel finally admits to killing Shauna.
4) Using phone records, authorities were able to connect Noel Stevens and George Tiaffay.
Authorities checked Noel’s phone and found a contact named George. When asked who it was, he said, “That’s my fireman friend.” George Tiaffay was friends with Noel Stevens, it was later discovered. Phone records show the two men were in frequent contact in the days leading up to Shauna’s death.
George allegedly convinced Noel to kill his estranged wife, Shauna Tiaffay, by offering money in return. Eventually, detectives found CCTV evidence of the two suspects shopping for the murder weapon, a hammer, together.
5) George Tiaffay, Shauna Tiaffay’s estranged husband, was charged and convicted of her murder.
Noel Stevens, the alleged hitman in Shauna’s murder, pleaded guilty in 2013 to avoid the death penalty and also agreed to testify against George Tiaffay, who maintains his innocence. George had also had a car accident while trying to run before being arrested. Authorities said the incident was an attempted suicide.
After Noel presented extensive evidence of everything that happened leading up to Shauna Tiaffay’s brutal murder, a jury convicted George of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in 2015. The father of one was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. . Meanwhile, the assassin received a prison sentence ranging from 42 years to life.
