An 8-year-old Virginia boy who died after falling from the roof of a moving vehicle “rolled the car” while his sister was driving, police said.
New footage reviewed by Hampton police reveals that the minor, who has not been named, climbed out of the window of a 2006 Ford Explorer while under the watch of Enashia Futrell, 18, on Oct. 2.
As the sister drove around an apartment complex on Golden Gate Drive, the boy stood on the roof of the car, pretending to slide down the street 1,000 feet until he was launched from the vehicle, 13 News Now reported.
He was found unresponsive on the road and died two days after being taken to a nearby hospital.
During an interview with police, Futrell claimed he didn’t realize his brother had gotten out of the car, but the footage also showed that before falling, the boy and another child in the car were hanging out the window without restraint. .
Futrell, of Newport News, admitted that he was driving over the 10 mph limit in the apartment complex, and that he was distracted.
Futrell’s mother told police that the teenager often helped look after the children after school when she was not around. Another child was reportedly in the front passenger seat when the incident occurred.

The 18-year-old has been charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter and one count of child endangerment.
His bond was set at $10,000 and he was prohibited from operating a vehicle.
