Lately, Yahoo users have been left scratching their heads after receiving the spam error message.
The warning message said:
“Your message cannot be sent because it looks like spam and/or links. Please modify your message and try again.”
If you’re not involved in anything mentioned in the above message and still can’t send email, the error may be from Yahoo’s end.
Before jumping to conclusions, let’s take a broader perspective on the whole thing.
Why does Yahoo say your message looks like spam?
Yahoo has set some guidelines that you need to adhere to as a user when exchanging emails using their platform, otherwise your email will be marked as spam.
Here are the reasons why Yahoo may mark your email as spam and temporarily block your account:
- Sending emails in bulk in a short period
- Send the same email to a large number of recipients
- Continuous sending of many emails in a short time.
- A message is stuck in the Yahoo Mail app
- Your Yahoo account has been hacked or compromised by a hacker and there have been some suspicious activities lately
So if your account has been flagged for sending spam emails, these could be the possible reasons.
But in my case, I was not involved in any such suspicious sending habits, still, I was facing a locked account. When sending an email from the yahoo webmail portal, the email was not even sent and the popup that your email looks like yahoo mail error appeared, please try sending again by modifying the message.
I tried again, as before, sending the email failed.
So if you’re thinking of sending a simple text without any links, it may work, no it won’t fix the spam error or restore email service. What will work then?
I spent almost 48 hours on my computer to fix it ASAP as this error completely stopped my work so getting rid of it was my priority. This is what I find:
I don’t know why, but I changed my yahoo account password and after one day, I was able to send emails as before. This is because Yahoo can take your account as hacked or compromised and it will prevent you from spreading spam. Changing the password can make them think the account is now protected, ultimately allowing you to send email.
You may already know, but here are the steps to change your Yahoo account password:
- You need to sign in to your Yahoo account.
- Open the ‘Account Information’ section and then click on ‘Account Security’.
- Click on the ‘Change Password’ option located on the right side of the screen.
- Set a new password, enter the same one twice to confirm.
- Clicking ‘Continue’ is the last step in the process.
From the moment you have changed your password, please try to send the email after a lapse of 24 hours. You are probably lucky like me. I recommend not trying to send an email before the expiration of this period, as this may confuse Yahoo into trusting you or not. In the meantime, you can update your password on all of the devices you use to sign in to Yahoo.
So that you’re never considered suspicious by Yahoo again, here are the tips to keep in mind:
- Use Yahoo Groups to send email to a large number of people.
- Give breaks while sending a large number of emails.
- Remove your Yahoo account from all untrusted sources.
