The ’70s pop group is one of the most famous and successful song contest winners after winning in April 1974 for their song “Waterloo.”
The band consisted of Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Agnetha Faltskog, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. In their joint statement, they expressed their gratitude to fans and talked about how far they have come in 50 years. The former group also marked the anniversary by organizing “piano moments” in several European countries.

According to DailyMail, several pianos across the continent would play a pre-recorded piece by Benny in unison to simulate a live performance. These include London, Warsaw, Berlin and Stockholm. They have also reissued a limited edition box set of the “Waterloo” album, with songs like “Honey Honey” and “My Mama Said.”

A Group of Legends Shares a Message of Mutual Appreciation
ABBA’s joint statement included a photo of the group winning the award in 1974.
The accompanying message read, “It’s dizzying and incredibly humbling to think that the millions of you who saw us for the first time in the 1974 Eurovision final have passed our music not just to one generation, but to generations.”
They talk about how there is major evidence of their impact in Abba Voyage in London, which is one of the reasons they are celebrating the 50th anniversary, because they know that their songs “still resonate.”

The message further read, “It’s hard to fathom that 50 years have passed since the four of us waited backstage for the results of all the juries across Europe at the Dome in Brighton. So what were our dreams during those tense moments or in the chaos after the victory we got by the smallest margin in the history of Eurovision? Four different dreams, no doubt, but whatever it was, how great, reality has overtaken them, that’s for sure.”

In their message, ABBA went on to thank fans for their support since their win and despite their split.
The band’s message continued, “Many of you were there from the beginning and have followed us ever since – for over half a century! The music you discover and learn to love as you grow older or later in life has a way of staying with you. forever.”
ABBA further wrote that they were happy to share the experience with their fans and know “our music has become a constant in” their lives.
“Over the years, we’ve been blessed with an outpouring of love from you, our fans. We feel it, and we want to know that hardly a day goes by when we’re not reminded of it,” ABBA said.

They concluded their statement: “To say thank you for what you have given us without sounding trivial is not easy and this is not a trivial moment. It is a joyful moment and, at the same time, a serious moment and we can only hope that you understand how grateful we are for a long and successful career and for your steadfast loyalty and support over the years. Fans of the band happily returned their kind words by posting comments in tribute to ABBA’s timeless music.
“I read this and cried! Thank you Abba for changing a little boy’s life 50 years ago,” said one emotional person.
Another fan recalled watching the band at Eurovision, saying: “I remember being at my Grandma and Grandpa’s house sitting with them [to] watch Eurovision and tell Grandpa ‘they’re going to win this’ and still love their music today.”
