An Alabama man has been declared the lucky winner of $1 million in the classic Publisher’s Clearing House sweepstakes — but he nearly missed out on the prize when he wasn’t home to receive the check.
Howie Guja, from the marketing company’s prize team, traveled all the way from the Big Apple to Albertville to present the six-figure award to Edwin Walker.
However, Walker was working out at work at the time, according to Al.com.

Guja learned from Walker’s neighbor that he was working on the side of the road, so he and a group of media personnel walked to his business to wait for him, WAFF reported.
When she returns home from childbirth, she receives life-changing news surrounded by family members.
“I was in a daze,” Walker told WAFF.

“I always had hope but I never really expected it. So, it was… like I said it was a big surprise,” Walker said.
Guja said he had experience giving prizes to unexpected winners before.
“You knock on the door and someone thinks it must be a solicitor or a salesperson and they don’t want to come to the door,” he said.

“Then, you’ll see them peek out and they see the flowers, they see everything, they see this patch and the next thing you know the door is open, they’re in their pajamas, their underwear, whatever it is. They are very, very happy.”
Walker said the money will go to his church, repairs to his home and his family.
