In her post, the 18-year-old shared a family photo and wrote in the caption, “This is one post I wish I never had to make. Last night we all surrounded Anna with love & told her it was okay to go. Unfortunately, around 11pm Anna breathed her last.”
Thompson acknowledged Cardwell’s year-long battle with the disease and emphasized the pain she witnessed, stating: “Anna was in a lot of pain last night but now as a family, we all know she is safe.”
He added, “I really don’t know what to say because my heart is really broken. Watching my 29-year-old sister last year battle this horrible disease was not easy.”

He wrote, “With broken hearts, we announce that @annamarie35 is no longer with us. He passed away at my home last night peacefully at 11:12pm.”
The mother-of-four expressed her gratitude for Cardwell’s resilient fight over the past 10 months, adding: “He gave an hour — a 10-month fight he died with his family around him.”

Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell Diagnosed With Stage 4 Cancer
Cardwell was first diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in January. According to reports, he received the bad news of adrenal carcinoma after undergoing tests for persistent abdominal pain.
The cancer was identified in his liver, kidney, and lung. At the time, family members were reportedly optimistic about his recovery as he began his first round of chemotherapy. But things seemed to be changing, with his mother, June, taking to social media to ask for prayers for Cardwell two days before his death.
June wrote on Instagram at the time, “Everyone we are asking for prayers for our family as we go through this process we really appreciate you all for all the thoughts and prayers and we will update you all whenever we can. just know that all your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated at this time.”
