On Thursday, actor Alec Baldwin and his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, attended the Pen America 2023 Spring Literary Gala at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
The 65-year-old actor hugged his wife as the two posed for pictures on the red carpet. It was the couple’s first public appearance since the “Rust” charges were officially dropped against the actor, although the special prosecutor warned that the investigation is still ongoing and charges could still be filed again.
While the couple looked happy as could be on the red carpet, things seemed to take a turn for the worse at the event, where a source claimed that the “Saturday Night Live” actress “screamed” at the waitress, causing her to “look shocked.”

A source who attended the event told Page Six that a young waitress was left “looking shocked” after the actor “scolded” her at the event. Baldwin reportedly stood to chat with someone just minutes before “a line of waiters came at once to deliver the food.”
A waitress, who was “probably in her late 20s or early 30s” was caught standing behind the actor, who was standing and talking to an unnamed individual. “Then, when he could pass, he started putting plates on the table,” the insider explained. “I don’t think he likes her doing that with him standing there.”
Baldwin then allegedly began “scolding her” although it’s not clear what was said. However, the waitress was heard telling someone else, “I don’t know why he’s yelling at me.” The insider stated that Baldwin’s wife, Hilaria, was not present for the event.

“I think he felt so bad he started putting the plate down while he was standing there,” the insider speculated, adding that the incident was “quick” and they think it was “largely unnoticed.”
The event is hosted by Colin Jost and pays tribute to “Saturday Night Live” creator Lorne Michaels. Salman Rushdie was a surprise guest at the event, marking his first in-person appearance since losing an eye in a horrific attack at a New York literary festival last August.
The 75-year-old author said, “It’s nice to be back — as opposed to not coming back, that’s also a possibility. I’m glad the dice rolled this way” after he received a standing ovation from the audience.

On Thursday night, the “Supercell” actor took to Instagram to share a photo of him and his wife posing with Tahgi Rahmani. “At the PEN AMERICA benefit honoring LORNE MICHAELS. Also, the imprisoned Iranian writer @narges_mohamadi_51,” he wrote in the caption.
“Narges Mohammadi received the 2023 PEN/Barbey Freedom of Writing Award, which was received by her husband, Tahgi Rahmani (pictured here). Incredible courage on both their parts,” he added. Fans immediately congratulated the post and shared their support for everyone attending the event.

The actress also took to Instagram on Friday morning to share a photo that Hilaria shared herself on Thursday. In the caption, the actor wrote, “Grandma and Grandpa out for the evening…”
The actor officially became a grandfather when the 27-year-old daughter he shares with ex-wife Kim Basinger, Ireland Baldwin, revealed that she had given birth earlier in the day. Ireland and her boyfriend, RAC, welcomed a daughter named Holland.

“She was mad at me because I made her get out of the elevator for a picture…well worth it,” Hilaria captioned her own photo. “We dress so rarely now that Edu asks me: ‘mom, what’s on your eyeballs?’ ‘Makeup’, I told her…I think it’s judged by a 2-year-old,” she joked.

She also shared another photo showing them both in gala attire while their children looked like they were getting ready for bed.
In the caption, Hilaria wrote, “All these aunties and uncles and us grandparents are so excited that Holland is here!!! Congratulations to mama and papa, Ireland, and Andre. We love you so much!” Alec Baldwin commented “Miracle” on the post while Ireland responded with an emoji.
