A daring plot allegedly hatched by Ukrainian intelligence operatives to wipe out dozens of Russian pilots with poisoned cake and whiskey was foiled at the last minute, according to a report.
The incident occurred Saturday at the Armavir Higher Military Aviation School in Russia’s Krasnodar region.
The elite aviation school located in the city of Armavir hosted a banquet in honor of its alumni who graduated from the institution 20 years ago.
There were 77 guests at the party, among them active duty pilots holding senior ranks in the Russian air force, Russian Telegram channel Fighterbomber reported.
In the midst of the festivities, a deliveryman arrived with a large cake weighing more than 44 pounds and several cases of Jameson Irish Whiskey, all courtesy of an unknown “grateful admirer” of the flight school, the report stated.

As the huge two-tiered cake was being sliced, the awe-struck alumni busied themselves taking selfies and sending thank-yous in their private chat groups.
At the same time, everyone at the party starts trying to figure out who sent the show.
An officer at the academy responsible for security released a screenshot of the sender from CCTV video, who was later identified as 32-year-old Egor Semenov, from the occupied Ukrainian city of Melitopol.
The suspect was said to have raced to Stavropol airport to buy a plane ticket to Moscow, but his plans to escape were thwarted by local authorities who arrested him, Telegram channel Baza reported.

During interrogation, Semenov allegedly admitted to carrying cakes and bottles of alcohol mixed with strong poison.
Semenov has been living in Russia since 2017. He has a young child and makes a living installing intercoms, according to local reports.
So far, the 32-year-old has been jailed for 15 days on an initial charge of disorderly conduct.
Authorities in Armavir are said to be searching for the local baker who created the deadly dessert, which is decorated with the flight school emblem.
The Telegram channel that first reported the incident, run by a retired fighter pilot, blamed the botched poisoning on Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, known as GUR.

“Coincidentally and thanks to the meticulousness of officials who set aside anonymous cakes and booze, no one got to eat the cake or taste the booze foolishly,” the channel said. “It must have been a disaster. 77 guests.”
“But everyone is still alive. GUR failed completely. And that’s good,” the author rejoiced.
