Controversy-ridden Amber Heard has been confirmed for an appearance in “Aquaman 2”.
The actor was briefly seen in the first trailer released by Warner Bros. for the upcoming “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” despite protests that he was left out of the franchise. Calls for her role as Mera to be scrapped come amid a nasty defamation lawsuit with her ex-husband, Johnny Depp.

Although Heard herself denied being removed from the action fantasy film starring Jason Momoa, many fans thought she was lying to save herself from possible criticism. So it came as a rude awakening when the first trailer for the highly anticipated project was shown at CinemaCon, and the “Pineapple Express” star was spotted in it.

The trailer shows the blonde celebrity character in two brief scenes, including one where Mera is seen “fighting in the water” without dialogue. The Independent reported that the mother-of-one “has a cameo” in a film extract “but in a battle scene.”
As it turns out, Heard narrowly missed out on keeping her part in the project, and she blames it on her defamation suit with Depp. He told the court that his appearance was significantly reduced after his former legal team called his abuse allegations a “hoax”.
The claim was quickly denied by Walter Hamada — head of DC films — who testified in court about the “Hidden Palms” actor’s limited screen time. Stating that the reason for her reduced screen presence was the lack of chemistry between Heard and Momoa, Hamada stated:
“The size of the role in the film that he has was determined in the early development of the script.”
ICYMI, the social activist and her ex have spent months debating their side in front of a jury on whether the former Washington Post’s 2018 op-ed titled, “I speak out against sexual violence — and face our culture’s wrath. That needs to be changed” is defamation or not.
A jury ultimately ruled last year that the op-ed was defamatory, and Heard was ordered to pay her ex-boyfriend $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. The total penalty was later reduced to $350,000 to comply with the statutory cap.

Although Heard and her legal team filed documents to appeal the court’s ruling in late November 2022, it appears the Young Hollywood Award winner has had second thoughts.

Per The Blast, the 37-year-old beauty took to Instagram on Monday, December 19, to inform the world that she is closing the book on the defamation case by settling it. The statement, which the Scream Award recipient shared in four slides, began:
“After much consideration I have made the very difficult decision to settle the defamation case brought against me by my ex-husband in Virginia. It is important for me to say that I never chose this. I stood up for my truth and in doing so my life because I knew it was destroyed.”
She explained that the “insults” she faced on social media during the trial were an “amplified version” of how “women are re-victimized” when they come forward with their stories.
The “Friday Night Lights” actor added that he did not admit any wrongdoing and that his statement was “not an act of concession.” After highlighting that he had lost faith in the US justice system, Heard wrote:
“Meanwhile, I was exposed to a kind of humiliation that I cannot live with again. Even if my US appeal was successful, the best outcome would be a retrial where a new jury would have to consider the evidence again. I can’t go through it a third time.”
Ultimately, the “I’m Not Ready” video vixen is focused on telling her truth, and no amount of “threatened, frustrated or swayed by what happened” will stop her from doing so. In his words:
“No one can and no one will take that away from me. My voice will forever remain the most valuable asset I have.”
Heard noted his remarks with appreciation for his “brilliant original appeals and trial teams for their tireless hard work.”
