The troubled reality TV star, who rose to fame in the early-mid 2000s on MTV’s “16 & Pregnant,” is taking small steps every day to repair her relationship with her 13-year-old daughter.
On Tuesday, September 6, the series “Teen Mom: The Next Chapter,” premiered on MTV. It shows Amber attending her daughter’s 13th birthday.

Amber Talks About Relationship With Teenage Daughter
“We’re working on our relationship and I’m patient,” the recovering addict told the camera. “Last year, my daughter asked for space and I did my best to be there for her while respecting her boundaries.”
In the episode, Amber presents her daughter with a gift and the two exchange hugs at the end of the party.
This is a big step for an estranged mother and daughter.
Amber’s ex, Gary Shirley, has had full custody of Leah since May 2016.

After her birthday party, Leah told Gary, “I want us to be nice together and not have any problems or anything. I don’t want to have any tension or for it to be awkward with him. I think we are making great strides. It’s still awkward because I don’t know what to say most of the time, but we’re taking big steps to get something.”
Amber echoed the same sentiment to Leah.
“It looks like we’re moving pretty close to where we need to go. We are moving at least. We are still trying. We’re trying to really find where we are and where we want to be,” he said.

After a three-year court battle, an Indiana judge ruled in favor of Glennon having sole legal and primary custody of their four-year-old son, James.

Glennon reportedly moved from Indiana to California after the legal victory.
In a new report from E! news, Glennon is happy with his legal victory and has no qualms about rubbing it in Amber’s face.
He told the outlet, “We are going through the nightmare. Now we can make that dream come true.”
Part of the custody agreement is that Glennon must “seek and consider the mother’s opinion before making any major decisions related to the child’s medical, educational and religious care.”
All hope of establishing a relationship with her son is not lost for Amber.
She was granted overnight stays with James that would be allowed monthly, and the time allotted with her son would alternate between California and Indiana.

Just to give you some perspective, Indiana is at least 1,809 miles from California, and about three hours by plane. The drive will take approximately 32 hours and 2,229.6 miles.
This kind of journey is a lot that small children have to go through every month.
After losing her custody, Amber released a statement explaining how hard she was working to “fix myself and fix my relationship with my kids.”
“Although I have always been open about my past substance abuse and struggles with mental illness, one should have the opportunity to redeem themselves and not be tied to their problems from the past,” he said. E! News. “If your path hasn’t been perfect, but you’ve worked hard to become a better, more stable and loving person today, keep moving forward like I want you to.”
