American Airlines traveler restrained by passengers, crew during meltdown before flight to US

American Airlines crew and passengers had to disembark and board a screaming man before a flight bound for Miami International Airport on Friday night.

The unidentified man was preparing to board American Airlines Flight 948 at Rio de Janeiro/Galeão International Airport in Brazil when he let out a distress call, saying “please” and “they’re killing me” in Spanish, according to ABC Local 10.

The screaming passenger was detained as violent scenes broke out on the plane before airport security escorted him away.

The five brave men — four passengers and an airline employee — worked together to subdue the man, using duct tape on his arms and head, while also fighting off the unruly passenger’s punches in one of the plane’s cockpits, WPLG exclusive video shows.

As one passenger tried to tie the man’s ankles, another tried to cover his mouth with duct tape but was prevented as the man’s head continued to thrash around.

She can be heard repeatedly yelling “No” as the man tries different methods to calm her down.

“Hold my hand,” and “breathe” are just a few of the techniques used.

The cause of the crash was not disclosed.

Despite the terrifying difficulties, the flight landed in Miami 13 minutes ahead of schedule, according to FlightAware.

No arrests have been made, the outlet added.

A 28-year-old man on Qantas flight QF46 between Bali and Melbourne had to be detained after he assaulted a crew member during the flight on December 30, according to 9News.

“If you don’t stay away from me, I will meet you,” he told those on board, the outlet reported.

Five passengers were required to disembark the belligerent traveller, who was handed over to police for questioning but did not face any charges.
