American woman living near Gaza offers firsthand account as Hamas opened fire on Israel: ‘Never been this scared’

Adele Raemer, 68, of the Bronx, moved to Israel in 1975 and lived on a kibbutz a mile from Gaza. The day before the Hamas attack on Israel, the retired teacher posted a video celebrating the 77th anniversary of Kibbutz Nirim. Hours later, violence erupted, which Raemer documented on Facebook. Speaking to The Post’s Doree Lewak after a grueling 17-hour day, an exhausted Raemer said, “I’m safe – for now. Good luck.” Three kibbutz members and nine terrorists were killed. His grandson’s house was infiltrated by terrorists, who were shot by his son-in-law.

6:33 am: Suddenly out of nowhere, a massive, non-stop attack.

7:26 am: For the past hour, Israel has been under massive attack. This has never happened before. We have never experienced anything like this before. The number of rockets fired at the same time is an impressive Iron Dome. So I don’t know where we go from here, but this is war. There is no way around it. I don’t know if you can hear the explosion in the background.

8:12 a.m.: “I’m in the safe room with my son. We locked the door and couldn’t get out, and I have to say it was very scary. I have never been so scared in my life. Terrorists have infiltrated Israel and that is in addition to massive rocket attacks. If you are the praying type, pray for us.

8:53 am: There appears to be an infiltration in or near my community. We were told to lock the door, not leave the safe space. We didn’t turn on the AC because we were afraid it would signal the presence of people in the house. My stomach twisted. I heard a lot of gunfire, even through the thick walls of the safe room. I need to go to the bathroom, but don’t dare. I really have never been this scared.

10:51 am: Still locked up, terrorists try to break into my house. So far they have not succeeded.

11:18 am: Heard massive machine gun fire. Don’t know if the IDF is already here.

12pm: Very thirsty but try to just take a sip so I don’t have to go to the bathroom.

12:55 pm: I appreciate everyone telling me to stay safe, showing that many care, but with terrorists going from house to house, I honestly don’t know how anyone does it.

3:16 pm: We have been informed that help is coming, but to stay locked down. (And I snuck out quickly to go to the bathroom..)

4:54 pm: Still waiting to be transferred. Hopefully there will be time to get my shoes and medicine and wallet. There are still terrorists out there, and the community is slowly being evacuated to safer places. We are still locked in the safe room.
