de Armas brought his Cuban heritage to the fore during his host debut on “Saturday Night Live.” Stepping onto the stage, the “Blonde” actress greeted the audience with “Gracias, gracias”, expressing her gratitude in Spanish.
He added, per Diversity, “Dia tenido un año increíble y estoy muy feliz de estar aquí presenting el programa de esta noche.” (“Thank you, thank you; I’ve had an amazing year, and I’m so happy to be here hosting tonight’s show.”)
On stage, de Armas shared his journey of coming to the United States and learning English. “I speak English,” he said, “But I didn’t when I first came to the US, I was born in Cuba. I came to America when I was 26 years old, and I learned English the way everyone who comes to this country: by watching ‘Friends.’”
Getting into character, de Armas impersonated Chandler Bing, the beloved character from the iconic sitcom. “Who would have thought Chandler Bing would be the best English tutor?” he quipped. “Look at me now; could I be better at English?”

de Armas also gave a shout-out to actor Robert De Niro, who he had the chance to work with in his first US film, “Hands of Stone.” He recalled how De Niro visited his father on a trip to Cuba, describing it as a kind gesture that meant a lot to him and his family.
The new movie star also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with such a talented cast, saying, “I’ve been very lucky to work with so many great actors.” He added, “My father is very proud of me and would be proud to see me today standing on this stage. I feel lucky to be here.”
