“We’ll take a shot, and then we’ll guess what it is,” Cohen, 54, said. Both wear glasses so they can’t see the content of the shot, but viewers at home can see what’s on the TV screen. The first hit is orange juice. “Honestly, it’s no different to me because alcohol, to me, everything tastes disgusting,” Cooper, 55, said before taking the first shot.
At the top of the next hour, both get a shot of buttermilk, and then at 10pm ET, it’s a shot of apple cider vinegar. “What can it be? Andy’s idea?” Cohen asked Anderson as they both looked like they weren’t enjoying the shot. “Stockings? Or shoes? Shall we drink the squeezed leather shoe juice?” asked Cooper, to which Cohen yelled, “I need tequila.” Honestly!”

In an Instagram post, Cohen admitted to being “too hairy” during last year’s event, which later led the network to decide to monitor drinking during their New Year’s Eve program this year. “My only direction is to have fun,” Cohen told PEOPLE before the network’s decision was made. “That’s what I set out to do and I’m happy to complete it.”
Many of his fans took to the comments of this past New Year’s Eve Instagram post to tell Cohen how much fun they had ringing in the new year watching him go on a funny drunken rant. “I only watch you every Dec 31st. This year, with no alcohol allowed, the two discussed the situation on air. “We can’t drink. We can’t drink, but that’s okay,” Cohen said with some energy mixed with anxiety. Cooper asked, “Are you going to be able to do it?” to which Cohen replied, “You know, that’s the question. We will see. Do I have pockets full of edibles? I do. Will I take them? I do not think so. I do not know. It was a long night. This is a disease-free telethon.”

TikToker Emfreeland, found it hilarious when Cohen read messages from viewers live on air. “He said this was a message to my son’s father. Hey, donkey! While you are out celebrating and having fun. I’m here taking care of the child you forgot,” the message began. He continued to read it with deep emotion as he said, “Have fun, lose. PS You’re bald!”
Many of his followers also found this moment laughable. “He forgot it wasn’t a real housewives reunion tweet ????,” wrote one. “Best night ever watching them ????,” added another.

Another TikToker, Alyssa Marie, posted a segment with Kevin Hart and her rant about Cooper and Cohen not being able to take a few alcoholic drinks this year. “I will take pictures because you have been deceived. I don’t believe CNN,” he blurted and both hosts laughed. “I’ll have a drink for you, okay?”

Anderson Cooper Shares His Feelings About New Year’s Eve On Social Media

At the end of the night, Cooper took to social media to share some of his thoughts and feelings about New Year’s Eve. “All my life, New Year’s Eve has been infused with sadness. Watching the ball drop as a ten-year-old with my brother, when my dad was in the hospital, we knew something terrible was going to happen, and it happened five days later when my dad died,” she began her Instagram caption.
“I’m still feeling that sadness, that loss tonight, but being able to spend it with my friend Andy, and with all of you watching, and going home afterwards to a house where my two boys are sleeping in their cribs and about to wake up in the morning with laughter and joy…it’s been a very different night for me… and I’m grateful.”
He ended the caption by reminding people that they are not alone. “If you feel alone tonight, I hope you know that there are many of us who feel the same way, and you are not alone. I hope you all have a very happy and healthy new year.”
