O’Connell recently appeared on “Watch What Happens Live” With and spoke with Cohen about his time as co-host on “The Talk” so far. During their conversation, Cohen told the “Stand by Me” cast that he thought he was the only host doing any work.
He said (para Yahoo), “I have to say, I’ve been noticing all day, Jerry, because I saw you this morning too, you’ve been bent over all day. And I know this because you brought The Talk behind you. To be honest. I’m sorry but CBS should double your salary.”
When O’Connell objected to Cohen’s statement, the host turned to the audience and insisted that O’Connell alone carried the show. He said, “There’s a guy who carries the show, and I’m sorry, but he’s sitting here because without Jerry, there’s no show. No show without Jerry.”

The actress continued to tease Cohen by reminding him that she was “working there” and had to be with her co-host “in six hours.” O’Connell said, “Andy’s words. Not mine. I love everyone. I love the world.”

O’Connell first joined as a regular co-host in 2021, becoming the first male co-host on a show that has always had an all-female cast. As the episode announced its new release, O’Connell said, “It’s fun, and it works, and we’re going to have fun.”
CBS hired O’Connell shortly after firing original co-host Sharon Osbourne due to controversy over race and discrimination and her public defense of Piers Morgan, an even more controversial TV personality.
O’Connell also said, “It’s really exciting. First of all, I want to say, you ladies made me very welcome. I mean, I came here as a guest a few months ago, and just from the moment I walked in, you were just friendly, you were nice, you were fun, and it worked. And here we are. O’Connell has previously spoken about her experience as a co-host E! News Daily Pop. He joked about how upset he was that actor Akbar Gbajabiamila ruined his position as the show’s only male host.
He said, “I am sure you know Akbar. He is amazing. He has been doing this for years, but this is the beginning of his career to become very famous. I am very happy and excited to be here with Akbar.”
The “Star Trek: Lower Decks” actress also said, “But I also have to give a shout out to Amanda Kloots. My co-star is going on Dancing With the Stars and you’re going to win that!” He also teased fans that he is bringing something unexpected to the show.
O’Connell continued, “I’m so scared to talk about my hairline and what’s going on. I’m not talking about any kind of plugs or issues with plugs.” He concluded, “It’s a very exciting time to be on The Talk.”
