While chatting with a news outlet at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, he revealed his desire to star as a “bad, bad character.”

“I like to play bad roles – bad, bad characters,” he says. “It’s amazing to explore a different type of character whose motivations are driven by selfishness,” added the actress, reflecting on the role she played in “Damsel.” “I’m more used to characters who are selfless or at least have good intentions.”

During a conversation on stage at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, the cast of “London has fallen” indicated that the film had a lot of influence on the audience, especially black people.

“The representation I craved as a young up-and-coming actor, to be given the opportunity to offer that is a dream come true,” he shared. “It’s a full circle moment.”

He has been honored with the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s Montecito Award in recognition of his body of work. The actor paid tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman, who starred as his son in the first “Black Panther” film but died in 2020 of cancer.

The actress revealed that she had second thoughts about how her character in the film ended, revealing that she protested it to director Ryan Coogler because she thought audiences wouldn’t like it.

“I protested. Yeah, I was like, ‘Ryan, what are you doing? why? You will regret that day! You will regret Ramonda’s death. People are going to be very disappointed,’” he joked.

Bassett recounted Coogler’s response to her concerns, saying, “He was like, ‘Angela, I know, I know, but look, dying is not really dying in this world. It doesn’t necessarily mean that.’”

He also revealed on the show that working on “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” is much more difficult than one would think.

“We would do the scene over and over again,” he said of the making of the 1993 Tina Turner biopic. “That concert scene, you literally feel like you have a sweater around your throat after performing, and we’ll do it all over again from top to bottom.”

Bassett, 64, crowned her outstanding performance as Queen Ramonda in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” with a Golden Globe award for best supporting actress in a motion picture.

She faces stiff competition from Kerry Condon for “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Jamie Lee Curtis for “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” Dolly De Leon for “Triangle of Sadness,” and Carey Mulligan for “She Said.”

The “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” actress also earned an Oscar nomination in the Best Actress in a supporting role category, which was Marvel’s first nomination.
