In a July 2019 Instagram post, “The Princess Diaries” star announced that she was pregnant with her second child with a black-and-white photo of her baby bump and a motivational message to struggling moms. He wrote:
“It’s not for the movies… All kidding, for all the people going through infertility and conception hell, please know that it wasn’t a straight line for one of my pregnancies. Sending you extra love.”
When asked why she shared those words, Hathaway explained that she fully understands the struggles women endure when trying to have children. In his words:

Hathaway Hides Her Pain While Performing On Stage
Delving into the heartbreaking details of her miscarriage, Hathaway admitted it was a challenging period for her as she had to mask her pain while performing as a pregnant woman.
“The first time, it didn’t work out for me. I was doing a play, and I had to give birth on stage every night,” she recalls, noting that she kept the miscarriage a secret, she told her inner circle the truth.
Hathaway told her friends when they visited her backstage because “It’s too much to keep it while I’m on stage pretending everything’s fine.” He added:

“I had to keep it real otherwise…So when it went well for me, having been on the other side — where you have to have grace to be happy for someone — I wanted to tell my sisters, ‘You don’t have to be graceful . I see you, and I am with you.'”
The painful memories made Hathaway’s eyes fill with emotion as she lamented: “It’s hard to want something so badly and wonder if you’re doing something wrong.”

Hathaway Wants Other Women to Feel Seen

“I thought, Where is this information? Why do we feel so isolated that we don’t need to? That’s where we get damaged,” explained Hathaway, noting that she decided to talk about her miscarriage and help other women. He continued:
“The thing that broke my heart, blew my mind, and gave me hope was that for three years after that, almost every day, a woman would come to me crying, and I would just hold her because she brought this. [pain] around and suddenly it’s not his anymore.”
When she wrote the Instagram post, Hathaway said, “It’s more about what I’m not going to do. I’m not going to be embarrassed by something that I see statistically is actually pretty normal.”
