Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez likened Palestinians to Jesus while portraying Israel as a violent colonial force in an online Christmas post, prompting critics to lash out at what they call blatant “Jew hatred.”
In his Instagram story on Christmas Eve, the left-leaning New York Democrat shared a photo of a child in the rubble of the Gaza Strip and said he was praying “for the peace and protection of innocent people in Gaza and the occupied territories.
“In the Christmas story, Christ is born in modern-day Palestine under the threat of a government engaged in the genocide of innocent people,” he wrote.
“He was part of the target population that was killed arbitrarily to protect the power of an unjust leader. Mary and Joseph, displaced by violence and forced to flee, became refugees in Egypt with a newborn baby waiting to one day return home.

“Thousands of years later, right-wing forces violently occupied Bethlehem as a similar story unfolds for Palestinians today, so much so that the Christian community in Bethlehem canceled this year’s Christmas Eve celebration from both. [fear for their] safety and respect,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote.
“Yet, even today, holy children are still born in places of unspeakable violence – because every child born, without identity and from any place, is holy. Especially the children of Gaza,” said AOC.

“The whole story of Christmas and Christ himself is about standing with the poor and the powerless, the marginalized and the maligned, the refugee and the immigrant, the outcast and the misunderstood without exception,” he wrote.
“This high Christian holiday is about honoring the precious sanctity of a family that, if the story unfolded today, was a Jewish Palestinian,” the Democrat said.
“Merry Christmas. May there be peace on Earth, amen.”
Jacob Kornbluh, a senior political reporter at The Forward, shared a screenshot of the post on X.
“AOC describes Israel as a ‘violent right-wing occupying force’ in [a] Christmas broadcast,” he wrote. “No mention of Hamas violence, [or] victims [the] The Oct. 7 attack.”

Other users noted that The AOC neglected to mention the Israelis still held captive by Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip and the women who were raped during the terrorist attacks, saying that he “Jew hatred is really on display here.”
A third user X claims that “Palestinian Jews are not a thing. They were Jews in Judea at that time.
“He spews make believe,” that user from New Jersey wrote.
The Christmas post was shared to X by The Forward senior political reporter Jacob N. Kornbluh. Some critics of the AOC spoke out against its message, including pro-Israel activist Andrea Karshan.
Pro-Israel activist Andrea Karshan just answer: “I hope people will enjoy Christmas and stop taking a social justice political attitude about it.
“I’m so glad that when I was a Christian, I enjoyed Christmas and didn’t waste my time getting involved in this nonsense. It’s so ridiculous,” Karshan wrote.
The AOC’s message came just hours before Pope Francis denounced the arms industry and the “instruments of death” that fuel war as he made a Christmas Day appeal for peace in the world and especially between Israel and Palestine.
Speaking from the loggia of the Basilica of St. Peter to the crowd below, Francis said he was saddened by Hamas’s “heinous attack” on southern Israel on October 7 and called for the release of the hostages.
But he also appealed for an end to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza and the “horrific harvest of innocent civilians” as he called for humanitarian aid to reach those in need.
