Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are teasing fans again!
Grande, who started her acting career on the Nickelodeon series “Sam and Cat,” has been cast to play the lead role in the Broadway adaptation of “Wicked,” alongside Erivo, known for her film “The Outsider.”
Although the film is yet to be released, the couple continues to drop pictures and videos of them working together.
Ariana Grande Ready For ‘Wicked’ Movie
On her Instagram story, the “God is a Woman” singer shared a cute photo of her and Erivo in adorable ballet flats. The picture shows each of their feet in ballet flats. Grande in nude flats and Erivo in black flats. She wrote “I love you @cynthiaerivo” in this post.
Responding to Grande’s Instagram story, the “Harriet” actress reposted the post on her own Instagram Story and wrote, “I love you too, @arianagrande.” Very cute !!!
It seems that both of them have tied up with the production of the film. In April, The Blast reported that there was an uproar from fans when it was announced that the major Broadway hit would be adapted into a film.
It caused even more of a stir when Grande and Erivo were announced as members of the film’s cast. Grande will play Glinda, The Good Witch, while Erivo will play Elphaba, “The Wicked Witch of the West,” who on Broadway was played by Idina Menzel.
There was even more outrage when the film’s Director, John M. Chu, announced that the film would be split into two parts, meaning there would be two separate films. In a rather detailed post, he explained why the film will be split into two parts.
‘The Wicked’ Faces Fan Response
Chu wrote, “SPECIAL WICKED UPDATE/ Thanks for all the support these past few months in anticipation of the WICKED movie. We have so many exciting things to share, but for now, I’ll give you one… or two, instead.”
He went on to reveal the reason why the film will have two parts.
“As we prepared this production over the last year, it became increasingly clear that it was impossible to wrestle the story of WICKED into one film without doing some damage to it. When we try to cut a song or trim a character, the decision starts to feel like a fatal compromise to the source material that has entertained us. All over the years,” he continued. “So we decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one WICKED movie but TWO!!!! With a larger space, we can tell the story of WICKED as it was meant to be told while bringing more depth and surprise to the journey of these beloved characters.”
In an effort to get fans interested, the film’s director concluded the post by assuring everyone that he and the cast will do their best to ensure that the film is nothing less than “an experience that respects its foundation for all the fans who have been waiting.”
Did fans take the news lightly? We don’t think so. Several fans gathered in the comments to express their disapproval.
One commented, “Would you consider making a two-and-a-half-hour film? Why are studios and film directors so opposed to just taking the stage show and not cutting anything? If it can fit on stage for one evening, there’s no reason. It’s not could be the same on film. It doesn’t make sense.”

The upcoming film will be produced under Universal Pictures and is an adaptation of the award-winning Broadway musical “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch Of The West” first produced in 1995 by Gregory Maguire.
According to reports, initially, award-winning director and producer Stephen Daldry was reportedly chosen to direct the film, but he called it quits for undisclosed reasons. Chu, the director behind the 2018 Hollywood blockbuster “Crazy Rich Asians” has now taken over as director of the film.
Several characters from Broadway will also be featured in the film. Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz, who co-wrote the musical’s songs and lyrics, will helm the screenplay, and Marc Platt will return as the film’s producer.
Most recently, “Bridgerton” star Jonathan Bailey was cast as Fiyero.
