During her appearance on “The Breakfast Club,” Ashanti discussed meeting with a producer who wanted her to pay in kind after she promised to help produce her songs for free.
“I was in a crazy situation with a producer,” the “Rain On Me” singer said, though she withheld the individual’s name, per New York Post. “We did two records together. He was like ‘OK, I’m not going to charge you. You’re my homie.’”
The 42-year-old music star later shockingly revealed that the individual insisted that he pay her $40,000 per song or make out with her before she released the song to him.
“Then when it came time to put it on the album, he was like, ‘Let’s take a shower together.’ I thought he was joking,” he added. “He was like, ‘Well, I’m serious. Let’s go out, let’s shower together, and then I’ll give you the records. Otherwise, I need 40 racks of each record.'”

Ashanti shared that the sudden change in the agreement surprised her as she did not expect such a request from him. Seeing that he was serious, he called his people, who then worked to fix the situation.
“I thought he was joking, because we’ve been working together for a few weeks. But it turned out he was serious. I had to make a few phone calls, and stuff was handled,” Ashanti said before adding, “It was wild.”
Dispelling any doubts about the veracity of her claims, Ashanti’s mother, Tina Douglas, who has managed her entire career, confirmed the crazy story during an interview on the daytime show.
Elsewhere in the interview, Ashanti hinted at correctly exposing the porn producer in her upcoming memoir.

Ashanti first came forward about the incident in 2018, in the wake of the #MeToo Movement which saw many women and men open up about power differentials, sexism, and sexual harassment, as well as assault in the entertainment world.
At the time, the “Foolish” singer shared on SiriusXM’s The Conversation with Maria Menounos how the matter was resolved, explaining that she called in “reinforcement” in the form of “a really cool, scary big brother.” They eventually got involved with a publisher and got two records and one additional record for nothing,
As for why she chose to open up about the incident, Ashanti told Menounos, per Many people“I feel like just for one woman, I have to come out and just say my part.”
She added, “At some point, you just have to speak up. And that’s what I did.

Ashanti recently took to Instagram to celebrate Domestic Violence Awareness month in a quiet way. The singer previously opened up about the domestic abuse her sister Kenashia “Shia” Douglas faced at the hands of her ex-fiancé, Windsor “Slow” Lubin.
“Words will not be able to express the amount of pain, anger, and disgust I feel to remember these moments… but at the same time, I am very proud of how strong, brave, resilient and not easy to give up. My sister is a warrior! I love you deeply and infinitely,” Ashanti wrote on Instagram.
She added, “Thank you for being so brave and bringing awareness to the evil, despicable and sad behavior that so many women face every day. You do! You have won! Some women feel so scared that they have no way out… by sharing your story, you bring hope, strength [and] continue to raise awareness for Domestic Violence.”
