Ashton Kutcher has stepped down from Thorn, the company founded by the actor with his ex-wife Demi Moore that works to combat human trafficking and especially children.
Kutcher’s wife, Mila Kunis, has also left the company. The “Friends With Benefits” cast observed on the Thorn board.
The pair have been in hot water lately over their refusal to condemn their longtime friend and “That 70’s Show” co-star Danny Masterson.
Masterson was found guilty of two counts of forcible rape earlier this month and sentenced to three decades in prison. The couple both wrote character letters on his behalf.

The pair’s departure from Thorn comes nearly a week after the actress released a video on social media amid ongoing criticism they have received for their unwavering support of Masterson.
What is ‘Thorn?’
Kutcher and Moore founded the organization before the couple split a decade ago.

According to the organization’s website, the two were moved to start the organization after seeing a documentary on child sex trafficking.
Although the documentary focused on the issue’s major presence in Cambodia, the two were surprised by how widespread the problem was in the United States.
Kutcher discussed his position as Thorn Chairman in his 2017 testimony before Congress on human trafficking. In his testimony, he detailed the company’s mission to stop the decisive influence of technology on the issue.

Kutcher wrote a resignation letter to the company’s board, per Time.
The letter stated, “Victims of sexual abuse have historically been silenced, and the character’s statement I present is another painful example of questioning victims who are brave enough to share their experiences. After my wife and I spent several days listening, personal reflection, learning and personal conversations with survivors and the employees and leadership at Thorn, I have determined that the responsible thing for me to do is to resign as Chairman of the Board, effective immediately. “
“I can’t let my lapses in judgment get in the way of our efforts and the children we serve,” Kutcher continued.
“The mission must always come first, and I want to extend a sincere apology to all victims of sexual violence, and to all the people at Thorn that I hurt by what I did,” the “Dude, Where’s My Car” actor said. “And to the wider advocacy community, I apologize deeply. I remain proud of what we have achieved in the last decade and will continue to support Thorn’s work. Thank you for your tireless support and dedication to this cause,” Kutcher’s letter concluded.
Kunis had not commented on the couple’s resignation as of press time.
“Never Been Kissed” actress Niesha Trout slammed the news of Kutcher’s resignation.
Wow. But still not a single apology to Chrissie, Jen, and myself. Ashton and Mila, you are amazingly deceptive creatures. Keep learning I guess. pic.twitter.com/oXYgyMxchb

Posting a screenshot of the post from reporter Yashar Ali, Trout wrote, “Wow. But still not a single apology to Chrissie, Jen, and myself. Ashton and Mila, you are amazingly deceptive creatures. Keep learning, I guess.”
The actor added “or apologize to ALL of Danny’s victims. How about. There are many. And everything is important,” to his thread.
Trout posted a screenshot on Instagram from the Voices In Action account, featuring a graphic created in support of Masterson’s reported victim.
After thanking those behind the organization in his post, Trout wrote, “I am so proud of all the brave victims in our case – those who testified and those who were not heard. This was a united effort, and although it was very scary and difficult – we all do it…”
In Kutcher’s character letter, he referred to Masterson as a “role model” and said the actor “sets an incredible standard” for how one should strive to treat others. He also emphasized Masterson’s reported “genuine concern for those around him,” according to court documents obtained exclusively by The Blast.
