Actress Aubrey Plaza had an interesting experience on the set of her movie, like when she “terrified” movie icon Robert De Niro during the filming of their movie “Dirty Grandpa.” The actress plays De Niro’s love interest, a woman who is obsessed with having sex with him because he is a college professor.
During a panel discussion at the recent London Film Festival, Plaza shared that she never interacted with De Niro before filming, meaning she only interacted with him when he was already in character. He explained that this caused him to mistake his character’s personality for his real personality.

Robert De Niro Considers His Character In Movies As His Actual Personality
Plaza explained he always stays in character on set, so he usually “goes all over” movie icons to build their on-screen chemistry. However, the “Parks and Recreation” star admitted that De Niro had assumed his character’s performance as a real personality.
She said, “My character has one goal, which is to have sex with her. That was my motivation. And I wore a wig in the film. I acted really crazy like the character because we were going to shoot. I stayed in character because that’s what I do. I don’t think he understands that it’s not me.”

During her talk, Plaza also shared that she finally mended her off-screen relationship with De Niro. The “Ingrid Goes West” actress said that a few months after filming, De Niro invited the cast and crew of “Dirty Grandpa” to her house for a group lunch.
Plaza explained that when he got there, the “Taxi Driver” actor didn’t even recognize him when he arrived at his house. However, when he reintroduces himself, they quickly become friends. Plaza said, “After that he loved me. We really got along. And I think it was interesting to him at that point.”
Aubrey Plaza Has Shared A Similar Story Before
Plaza previously shared the story of how he made De Niro uncomfortable on the set of “Dirty Grandpa.” The “Parks and Recreation” actress was interviewed on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in 2016 and shared the story of how the film’s director, Dan Mazer, asked her to suck on De Niro’s nipple.
She said, “I’m going to try to go in there and suck her nipples, and she’s like hitting me, and I don’t know if it’s in character or not. And then they cut the camera and [the director] called me back and said, ‘Bob doesn’t like attention to his nipples.’ I was like, ‘Great, now he thinks I want to do that.'”
