Curry, the wife of NBA star Stephen Curry, says she’s not really into New Year’s resolutions, but is actually more of a “monthly resolution kind of girl.” He explains that it’s easier for him to keep track of each small victory throughout the year as it happens.

“I have been on a health journey for the past three years. I like to express and write things down and set my intentions and goals,” he explained. “I was obsessed with that and I found it really worked for me, being able to see things clearly.”

One thing he focused on in January was building “some lean muscle” after his weight loss over the past year. “I have lost 35 pounds. all last year, which I was very excited about, but now I want that definition and I want to feel strong in my skin,” she said.

While Curry admits it’s difficult to keep New Year’s resolutions, he says the program’s approach “isn’t overwhelming, it’s approachable.” “When the new year comes around every year, everyone is coming into action, balls to the wall and wanting to do their best, and you almost always fall short,” he said. “So with this Jumpstart Your Health Challenge, it makes it easier. It’s not overwhelming, it’s approachable.”

Curry, mother of three children, Riley, 10 and Ryan, 7, and son Canon, 4, tries not to compare her progress and abilities to others. She learned to not be competitive with her health and fitness journey and was happy with her progress along the way.

“I’m married to a high performance athlete who does it all. And I think I have to be honest with myself and realize that I can’t do that, and I don’t have to do that to see the results I want to see,” he said. “I have an inner competition that doesn’t exist. So I almost always lose in whatever I do because I just can’t do it to that level.”

He continued by explaining that you can only do what you can. “I think I need to take a moment, take a deep breath and just realize, do what you can and that’s enough.”

Ayesha Curry Encourages Being Gentle With Yourself When Achieving Your Goals

Finding what works best for you is key, and for Curry, it’s not “aggressive high-intensity exercise”. “I started to realize that the more aggressive high-intensity workouts weren’t really working for me. So for me, hiking and being in nature, or jogging, or exercising for 20 minutes instead of an hour is actually more effective for me,” he explained. “And I started seeing more results. Pilates and yoga and hiking, those are the things I see the most change in.”

She also encourages being gentle and realizing that some days may feel uncomfortable. “You might have days where it doesn’t feel great and it doesn’t work and that’s okay,” she says. “But know that any step, whether big or small, is a step in the right direction.”

Celebrating small victories is something Curry encourages. In an Instagram post from October, he did just that. “I love a nice ‘celebratory’ glass of champagne like… ‘Yay, it’s Thursday!’ Or ‘I’m not wearing sweatpants today!’”

Many of her followers jumped into the comments section to tell her that this was relatable. Facebook commented, “is worth celebrating ?” and another follower added, “Wearing sweatpants is also a celebration. ? ?”
