The Extra author and correspondent is channeling her past even further into her new book, out today. The connection between Lindsay’s novel and her real-life reality TV fame might be a little hard to miss for fans who remember the best of her time on Bachelor Nation!

What Do We Know About ‘True Love?’

The ‘Bachelor’ baby legacy is quite evident in Bachelor Nation. Lindsay was the first black woman to ever lead “The Bachelorette,” she sat in the co-host chair of the franchise’s official podcast, “Bachelor Happy Hour” for a while, and she was often linked to the former franchise’s downfall. host, Chris Harrison.

But what if Lindsay had never accepted the invitation to push herself into the reality TV spotlight?

The concept of an alternate reality is explored by the main character of “True Love”, the quiet and somewhat introverted Maya.

In an interview with NBC’s New York Live, Lindsay discussed the thought of never taking the big leap, something she revealed she often looks back on.

“It was a moment I will always remember in my life,” explained Lindsay. “Having said ‘yes’ to going on ‘The Bachelor’ changed the entire trajectory of my life.”

The entertainer went on to reveal he initially had and pitched the idea for the novel after going through the same process as “Miss Me With That.”

“I thought it was a fun way to explore ‘what if I had said no, what if I had stayed in a box, what if I had stayed in that life plan, in that relationship that was going nowhere, and that career doesn’t satisfy me, what does it look like?’ And this gave me the opportunity to do that,” explained Lindsay. “So it’s a romance novel, but it’s also a book about self-discovery.”

Lindsay went on to reveal that she had all kinds of readers in mind when she was inspired to write “True Love!”

“I think this is a book for everyone because everyone has been at the crossroads of love, life, career, friendship,” he said. “The book discusses all of that. So I want people to say ‘yes,’ even if they’re afraid to accept that fear, but don’t let fear stop you, because, for… until I was 31 years old, I did that, and when I finally decided to come out of it, it changed my life for the better,” continued Lindsay.

Lindsay’s legacy as a Black ‘Bachelor’ is a milestone that will surely follow her throughout her career. However, it’s not one aspect of her story that she wants to bring to Maya’s fictional world of reality TV-inspired true love.

Talk to Entertainment WeeklyLindsay said, “It’s definitely a thought, but I don’t want to do it [Maya’s experience] too much like that. Because I want to make it lighter. And Maya is the one we focus on. That’s what I wanted to be the focal point of the book, and not necessarily Delilah’s [Maya’s BFF, who is Latina] There are easter eggs in my life in the book. But reality shows are enough. I don’t want to make her a woman of color because we all know they need to do more than that, not just make her Black and white. I’ve talked about this before, but they need to do more than that. There are so many other ethnicities to explore when it comes to leading a reality show,” Lindsay concluded.

“True Love” is now available from Random House!
