“The Bachelor” alum Blake Moynes was visiting Africa to fight for endangered species when he suddenly contracted a severe infection. Due to the severity of the infection, Moynes was hospitalized and had to undergo surgery.
“I just got a call from Blake. I don’t hear about him very often [because he’s been] in Africa for about a month and she has no cell service,” Blake’s mother, Emily, wrote on social media at the time. “But he’s down there fighting poachers, saving rhinos and elephants and doing what he really loves. He’s so passionate about things like that.”
“Four days ago, he called and said he had a really bad infection that was being treated,” Emily continued to explain.
Now, weeks after he was hospitalized in Africa, and weeks after he underwent surgery, the 32-year-old is now safely home.

Moynes’ mother, Emily Moynes, took to Instagram Stories on Friday, February 17, sharing a video of her son walking through the front door of her home in Canada.
His three dogs were overjoyed to see him come home as they jumped on him and smothered the “Bachelor” alum with kisses.
Moynes reposted the video of her mother to her own Instagram, writing, “Home, no crutches, my dog, my bed.”

A few weeks ago, after news broke that Moynes had contracted an infection and was hospitalized in Africa, a representative for Moynes spoke with E! News, explained, “Blake has been working and training in South Africa with the anti-poaching unit where [he] develop a severe infection. He was recently treated with good medical care and just finished surgery yesterday. We are awaiting confirmation that everything is on track in the next few days. He is being closely monitored and as soon as he is able to return safely, he will return home.”
Blake’s mother at the time also explained how the 32-year-old man had to undergo surgery due to a severe infection. “I want him to go home,” she wrote on social media before adding, “F*ck Blake, just go home. I know you love what you do but you make me nervous.”
Emily, of course, is terrified and feels helpless as her son faces this alone on another continent. “I’m ready to get on the next flight to Africa,” she continued before adding, “Let’s pray for Blake.”
Good to see Blake Moynes home safely. Rest in peace, Blake.

ABC
Blake Moynes first appeared on season 16 of “The Bachelorette,” but was eliminated in week nine. He returned to Katie Thurton’s season, where he proposed to the lead, however, their engagement did not last long.
Just three months after Thurston’s season aired, the two released a joint statement, writing, “With mutual love and respect we have decided to go our separate ways. We are very grateful for the moments we shared together and the whole journey this year has taken, but we have finally come to the conclusion that we are not compatible as a life partner, and it is the most caring choice for both of us to move forward independently. “
The two continued, “We ask for kindness and privacy as we both navigate this transition. We will both forever want the best for each other and ask that you support us in our decisions.”
