In the first two seasons, Ferreira’s character struggles with body image issues while navigating the challenges of high school. Ferreira mentioned that some people have approached her thinking she wasn’t happy with her role in the second season, but she insists that “it’s good.” He also revealed that although he was injured during filming, the incident did not contribute to his decision to leave. “I don’t walk outside the set. I sprained my ankle once and had to undergo an X-ray. Maybe that’s what they mean?” he said, per Insider.

Instead, Ferreira explained that her exit from the show was a “mutual decision” between her and the creators, as they felt that Kat’s story arc had run its course.

According to Ferreira, finding a meaningful storyline for Kat in the second season of the Emmy-winning HBO series was a struggle. He explained, “I don’t think there’s anywhere for him to go.”

“I think there are places he can go. I don’t think it will fit the show. I don’t know if it will do him justice,” he added.

Ferreira also expressed her desire to move away from the stereotypical “fat best friend” role and pursue other parts that challenge her as an actor. He added that the show’s creators shared this sentiment and supported his decision to come out. “I think both sides know I don’t want to be a fat best friend. I don’t want to play that, and I don’t think they want that either.”

In addition, Ferreira also emphasized that the filming of the “Euphoria” season took around nine months. It doesn’t make sense for him to spend most of his year filming a show where his roles are getting more and more limited.

In the first season, Ferreira saw her character go on a journey of self-discovery and also become an underage cam-girl. However, the second season felt like a struggle. The actress revealed that it hurt to see fans disappointed with the direction her character took in the show’s second season, which focused mainly on her relationship with a classmate named Ethan.

“I just think, maybe, I overstayed my welcome. So, I feel good about saying, ‘Okay, I don’t have to worry about this, and we both don’t worry too much about this,’ because it’s exhausting,” he said.

He added, per Insider, “Sam writes for things he relates to. I don’t think he’s related to Kat. I like Kat, so I can go my route. At first, I was like, ‘Oh my God, I’m a failure. I’m a loser.’ It has been a good thing.”

Ferreira is now set to star alongside “Stranger Things” actor Dacre Montgomery in the upcoming remake of the film, “Faces of Death.”
