Cera, known for his charming and awkward on-screen personality, rose to fame with his stellar performance as the lovable and socially awkward Evan in the 2007 hit comedy “Superbad.” The film, directed by Greg Mottola, achieved critical acclaim and box office success, thrusting Cera into the limelight. Just a few months later, he cemented his position as a star on the rise by portraying Paulie Bleeker in the indie favorite “Juno,” to widespread acclaim.

However, Cera recently revealed that her sudden and overwhelming recognition has been overwhelming, leaving her struggling with her newfound celebrity status, per Caretaker. The pressure to maintain success and meet the high expectations of fans began to affect the actor’s mental and emotional well-being.

“I don’t know how to handle walking on the street,” he said in an interview with the news channel. “Fame makes you very uncomfortable in your own skin and makes you paranoid and weird. There were a lot of great things about it, and I met a lot of great people, but there was a lot of bad energy too, which I wasn’t ready to handle.”

The 35-year-old actor admitted that he had left the acting profession altogether. Cera described the experience as a personal “crisis” as she questioned her identity and purpose beyond her on-screen persona.

“There was a time when I wanted to stop taking jobs that would make me more famous,” Cera admitted. “I’m having a bit of a crisis … I’m not enjoying the level of heat. I don’t know if I will continue to be an actor.”

Fortunately, Cera finds peace when she returns from the limelight and resumes her true passion. He also stuck with acting as he was billed to star in “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” which came out in 2010.

Cera said she is now “very grateful” that she “committed” to the role and did not end her career.

follow Caretaker, the “Year One” actress also revealed that one of the main obstacles she faced during her crisis was struggling to create healthy boundaries with her fans. As her popularity soared, she found herself inundated with attention from fans who often blurred the lines between her on-screen persona and her real-life identity.

“Drunken people would be a classic example,” Cera shared. “You know, if people are drunk, and they know you, and they’re very enthusiastic, it can also be toxic. When you’re a kid, people feel like they can catch you – they don’t respect you or your physical space. I don’t know how to set my boundaries respectfully.”

He shared a specific moment when he went to a bar with friends the weekend “Superbad” came out.

In a lighthearted interview with People magazine, Cera shared a funny story about her upcoming role in the highly anticipated “Barbie” movie. The actress, who stars as Allen in the film, revealed that she was left out of the “Barbie” group chat because she was still using a flip phone.

“I don’t have an iPhone myself. I have a flip phone,” said Cera. “But I still think I wouldn’t belong in a group chat because my character, Allan, is in his own little world. When I arrived, Greta’s gift to me was a picture disc of NSYNC’s ‘No Strings Attached’, which somehow felt like a real guiding light in this character’s background.”

The actor previously documented his aversion to social media and smartphones in an interview with Hollywood Reporter.

“And it was a conscious choice because I felt a little scared about it, honestly, like I was going to lose control of my waking life,” she says. “Right when people started having smartphones when it was Blackberry, I was having lunch with a friend of mine who was my best friend at the time, and he had just gotten a Blackberry, and the whole meal he was typing e-mails, and I was sitting at it’s quiet and boring.”

He added, “So I had an initial aversion to them.”
