Bear cub runs wild in Alaskan grocery store: video

A black bear cub in search of bear necessities wandered into an Alaskan grocery store last week, giving shoppers a bit of a scare.

Two Wildlife Troopers and the Petersburg Police Department were called to the IGA Trading Union on Mitkof Island to control the animal on Tuesday, according to Alaska News Source.

Wild footage shows officers corralling the toddler who was chased behind a stack of grocery carts in the produce section before hauling him out to a military vehicle with a humane steel arresting pole.

Alaska State Troopers Public Information Officer Justin Freeman was then assigned to be the bearer of bad news about “abandoned” animals to reporters.

“In coordination with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, we euthanized the bear for multiple factors,” Freeman reportedly said.

The trooper added that the bear was too “skinny” to survive the winter in the wild and said it was “unknown [animal care] facilities have housing for black bears.”
