In a recent interview with GQ, Scott expressed his deep sorrow and regret over the tragic incident that left ten concertgoers dead and many others injured during his Astroworld 2021 concert. He called the tragedy “devastating” and said that dealing with the loss of life was sometimes “rough” for him.

“I always think about it,” the rapper told the news outlet. “The fans are like my family. You know, I love my fans so much. I’m just too devastated.”

“It has moments where it gets tough. You just feel for those people. And their families,” he said about dealing with the tragedy.

Scott has faced criticism in the wake of the tragedy, with many blaming him for the incident that left 10 people dead from compression asphyxiation and more than 2,400 others reportedly requiring medical attention.

The 32-year-old rapper, born Jacques Berman Webster II, did not face criminal charges in connection with the tragic incident after a Texas grand jury issued six no-bills in the case in June, per E! News.

In the months following the incident, the rapper has been hit with several lawsuits, such as Live Nation, Epic Records, Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation, and several other businesses and event organizers.

There has been much speculation about whether Scott will face criminal charges for his role in the event. However, the Harris County District Attorney did not find much evidence to support such charges.

After the verdict, an attorney for the rapper, Kent Schaffer, told the news outlet that the verdict “confirms what we’ve known all along—that Travis Scott is not responsible for the Astroworld tragedy.”

“Now that this chapter is closed, we hope that the government’s efforts will focus on what matters most—stopping future heartbreaking tragedies like AstroWorld from happening again,” added Schaffer.

In his interview with GQ, Scott announced that he plans to pursue a degree in architecture from Harvard University after completing his upcoming tour.

The rapper, who reportedly always wanted to be a nephrologist, dropped out of school for music during his sophomore year at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

In the interview, he made no joke about his fascination with the way buildings are designed and engineered while admitting that getting into Harvard was no easy task, even for him as an A-list celebrity.

“I’m going to Harvard for architecture school,” he shared. “I had to work hard to get in. They didn’t let me take any shortcuts.”
