George Washington Best Biography, Wikipedia, Family, Early Life, George Washington was the first president of the United States and he was born on February 22, 1732. George Washington is a name in history that cannot be removed. He served as president from 1789-1797 and he was also called the “Father of the Nation”. It is because he is the man under whose leadership the United States got its foundation.

George Washington received his first training in the military arena and was commissioned as Commander of a Virginia Regiment when the Indians and French were at war. He was later elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses and appointed commanding general of the famous Continental Army, leading the country to victory over the British in 1781 when the Revolutionary War broke out.

All of this led to American independence. In 1783, he resigned his position after an agreement was signed which was the Treaty of Paris.

The Early Life of George Washington

George Washington was born into a wealthy family of Virginia planters and his parents had amassed their wealth from tobacco farming and land speculation. George’s great-grandfather had emigrated in 1656 from Musgrave England to the colony in Virginia where he bought five thousand acres of land in locations such as the Potomac River and Little Hunting Creek.

George Washington was born in Westmoreland County and he was the first of six children of his parents. His mother was Mary Ball Washington and his father was Augustine Washington. His father was not an ordinary man, he was a prominent public figure and Justice of the Peace.

He also had four more children from his first wife Jane Butler. In 1735, the Washington family moved to Little Hunting Creek, and then in 1738 they again moved to Ferry Farm. In 1743 George’s father died so he inherited ten slaves and the Ferry farm property.

George Washington never went to school but he went to the Lowe Church School located in Hartsfield. He learned about Trigonometry, mathematics, and land surveying, and with his fat learning skills he became a map maker and draftsman.

He did not reach full adulthood but he acquired the art of writing with great precision and strength. He is very good at writing.

George often visited Belvoir and Vernon where his father-in-law Lawrence had a farm. Lawrence is George’s older brother. Later Fairfax became George’s surrogate father and guardian and then for several months, George spent time surveying Fairfax’s Shenandoah Valley property.

He also earned his surveyor’s license at the time from the prestigious College of William and Marry when he was just seventeen years old. He was later elected Surveyor of Culpeper County, Virginia even though he had no regular apprenticeship experience.

On July 20, 1749, he appeared at the Culpeper County office where he took his oath. In 1750 after learning about the border region he resigned his post. He did not abandon survey work and continued it in the Blue Ridge Mountains. He had accumulated a lot of land about 2,315 acres in 1752.

George Washington’s wedding

George Washington married in 1759 when he was 26 years old to Martha Dandridge Custis. Martha was older than George who was the 27 year old widow of Daniel Parke. Martha is skilled, experienced and courteous in the Planter estate business. Both are happily married and blessed with children.

Martha has two children from her previous marriage, Pasty and Jacky. Then Martha had two more children Washy and Nelly. Later the family moved to Mount Vernon where he took the life of a tobacco grower and surprisingly joined as a political figure.

George Washington’s Political Beginnings

When the Indian and French war broke out at the insistence of George, Lord Botetourt who was the Governor at the time fulfilled his promise to give land to Dinwiddie to all volunteer militia. Then he doubled the size of his property and employees.

In his political activities, he once supported the candidacy of George William Fairfax who was also his friend. This support of a friend turned into a dispute that resulted in a physical altercation between William Payne and George.

George apologizes to William expecting a fight. George was a large landowner and also a respected military hero, he had the support of the local people so he was elected to the Virginia territorial legislature representing Fredrick County. He won the election with the support of the local people. This is where his political career began.

Death of George Washington

There is debate over his death as illness and sudden death are both mysterious. It is speculated that he died from massive blood loss and hypovolemic shock. His net worth is $587 Million.
